Lily was lying in her bed, engrossed in a book about ancient Greek mythology. The stories of powerful gods and seductive goddesses never failed to capture her imagination. But tonight, her attention was abruptly pulled away by a loud thud coming from her neighbor's house.
She frowned, her curiosity piqued. What could have caused that ruckus? She had always been intrigued by the mysterious man who lived next door, but she had never mustered the courage to talk to him. Until now.
Her heart pounded with excitement and a hint of fear as she tiptoed towards the source of the noise. As she approached, she saw Adam, the man from next door, lying on the floor, clutching his ankle. He looked up, startled, as he saw Lily peering at him through the window.
Without hesitation, Lily opened the door and strode in. "What on earth are you doing, you idiot?" she scolded, trying to hide her concern. "You could have broken something!"
Adam tried to protest, but Lily was having none of it. "Don't be ridiculous," she chided, helping him up. "You're not leaving me here, injured and alone."
She led him to her house, her grip firm on his arm. Once inside, she settled him onto her bed and went to fetch some ice for his ankle. As she returned, she couldn't help but notice the way his muscles rippled under his shirt. Not bad for an old man, she thought wryly.
Adam caught her gaze and chuckled. "You're not so bad-looking yourself," he said, his voice low and gravelly.
Lily raised an eyebrow. "You're old enough to be my father," she retorted, trying to keep her voice light. "You should stop flirting with me."
But Adam was undeterred. "You have a beautiful smile," he said, his eyes never leaving hers. "You should use it more often."
Lily rolled her eyes, trying to hide her blush. "You're lucky I'm helping you," she said, applying the ice to his ankle. "You should be grateful."
As she worked, her hand brushed against his leg. She felt a jolt of electricity run through her, and she looked up to see Adam staring at her with a hungry gaze. She felt a mix of fear and excitement, her heart pounding in her chest.
"I think it's time for you to leave," she said, her voice shaking slightly.
But Adam wouldn't let go. "I don't want you to leave," he said, his grip tightening on her hand.
Lily tried to pull away, but he held on. "You're being ridiculous," she said, her voice stern. "I need to go."
But as she looked into his eyes, she saw the desperation there. She felt a pang of pity, and a flicker of disgust. "You're a pervert for wanting me," she said, her voice barely above a whisper.
Adam looked ashamed, and let go of her hand. Lily felt a mix of relief and disappointment. "I'm going to call your wife to come and help you," she said, her voice cold.
Adam looked defeated. "I don't have a wife," he said, his voice barely audible.
Lily felt a twinge of guilt. "I'll be right back," she said, her voice softer now. She went to the phone and dialed, her mind racing. What had she gotten herself into?
