The trendy coffee shop in the city was bustling with activity, the hum of conversation and the whir of the espresso machine creating a comforting background noise. Sarah sat at a table by herself, sipping her coffee and scrolling through her phone. She came across a picture of her friend's new boyfriend and couldn't help but roll her eyes. He was just another older, boring man.
Emily walked into the coffee shop, her eyes scanning the room until she spotted Sarah. She made her way over to the table, a smile on her face. "Hey, Sarah!" she said, sitting down across from her.
Sarah looked up from her phone and forced a smile. "Hey, Emily."
Emily noticed the picture on Sarah's phone and couldn't help but tease her. "Still holding out for your dream boyfriend, huh?" she said with a smirk.
Sarah scoffed and put her phone away. "At least I'm not settling for someone who's only appeal is their wealth and power," she retorted.
Emily laughed and took a sip of her coffee. "Oh come on, Sarah. You can't deny that older men have their perks. They're more experienced, more confident, and they know what they want."
Sarah couldn't help but feel a pang of jealousy. It seemed like all of her friends were settling down with older men, while she was still single and holding out for her dream guy.
"I'm just looking for someone who's genuine and kind," Sarah said, staring into her coffee cup.
Emily nodded. "I get it. But sometimes, those qualities can come in unexpected packages."
Sarah looked up, confused.
Emily nodded towards a table nearby. "Like that guy over there. He looks pretty genuine and kind to me."
Sarah followed Emily's gaze and saw a young man sitting at a table, completely absorbed in his book. He had a cute, innocent look about him that Sarah found endearing.
She felt a flutter in her chest and couldn't help but stare. She imagined what it would be like to be with someone like him. Someone who wasn't jaded by the world and still had a sense of wonder.
Emily noticed where Sarah's gaze was fixed and couldn't help but laugh. "Looks like you've found your dream boyfriend," she said with a grin.
Sarah blushed and quickly looked away. "He's just a kid," she said, trying to play it cool.
Emily raised an eyebrow. "And how old are you again?" she asked with a playful insult.
Sarah rolled her eyes. "You know what I mean."
Emily stood up to leave. "Think about it, Sarah. Maybe your dream boyfriend is right under your nose," she said with a wink before walking out of the coffee shop.
Sarah sat at the table, lost in thought. Maybe Emily was right. Maybe she had been looking for love in all the wrong places. She decided to take a chance and introduce herself to the young man. After all, what was the worst that could happen?
She took a deep breath and walked over to his table. "Hi," she said, trying to sound casual.
The young man looked up from his book, surprised. "Oh, hi," he said, smiling.
Sarah felt her heart flutter. He had the most genuine smile she had ever seen.
"What are you reading?" she asked, nodding towards his book.
"It's a collection of poetry by Rumi," he said. "Have you heard of him?"
Sarah shook her head. "No, but it sounds interesting."
They continued to talk, their conversation flowing naturally. Sarah couldn't believe how easy it was to talk to him. He was intelligent, kind, and had a sense of humor that made her laugh.
As they talked, Sarah couldn't help but feel a connection to him. Maybe Emily was right. Maybe her dream boyfriend was right under her nose.
The young man, whose name was Jack, asked Sarah if she wanted to grab dinner with him sometime. Sarah agreed, her heart racing with excitement.
As she walked back to her table, she couldn't help but smile. Maybe her search for the perfect man was over. Maybe she had found her cute, innocent ideal.
