The sound of the front door slamming open startled Akane, causing her to lose her balance and stumble out of her perfect handstand. She sighed as she straightened up and turned to face the unwelcome intrusion.
"Akane, darling! You're home!" her mother slurred, stumbling into the living room with a man Akane had never seen before. The stranger's eyes raked over Akane's body, and she fought the urge to cross her arms over her chest.
"Yeah, I'm just practicing," Akane replied, forcing a smile. She glanced at her mother, who was swaying on her feet. "Are you okay, Mom?"
"I'm fine!" her mother snapped, her eyes narrowing. "I just heard some...rumors about you and Nekomaru. Is it true?"
Akane's heart skipped a beat. She had hoped that the gossip would blow over, but it seemed that her mother had gotten wind of it. She took a deep breath, trying to keep her voice steady.
"It's just locker room talk, Mom. You know how it is."
The stranger chuckled, and Akane turned to glare at him. "Something funny?"
He grinned, his eyes glinting. "I bet you're just as flexible in other areas, aren't you?"
Akane's eyes narrowed. "Excuse me?"
"Katsuro, that's enough!" her mother snapped, but Katsuro just shrugged.
"Just stating the obvious, dear. Your daughter has a body made for sin."
Akane felt a surge of anger. "And you have a mouth made for shutting up," she retorted, earning a gasp from her mother.
Katsuro's grin faltered, but he quickly recovered. "Feisty, aren't we? I like that."
"Well, you're not going to like this," Akane said, taking a step forward. "Don't ever talk to me like that again."
Katsuro's eyes widened as Akane lunged at him, pinning him down to the couch. She leaned over him, her eyes blazing.
"I don't know what your game is, but I'm not interested. Now get out of my apartment before I call the police."
Katsuro scrambled to his feet, his face pale. "You're crazy!" he shouted, stumbling towards the door.
Akane didn't move until she heard the front door slam shut. She took a deep breath, trying to calm her racing heart.
"Akane, what are we going to do?" her mother asked, her voice trembling.
Akane turned to face her mother, her expression hardening. "We're going to face this head-on. I'm not going to let anyone tell me what I can and can't do."
Her mother's eyes filled with tears. "But you're pregnant, Akane. You can't raise a baby on your own."
Akane's heart clenched, but she forced herself to stay strong. "I'll figure it out, Mom. I always do."
Her mother sighed, wiping away her tears. "I'm sorry, Akane. I didn't mean to hurt you."
Akane nodded, walking over to hug her mother. "I know, Mom. It's going to be okay."
As her mother retreated to her room, Akane couldn't help but feel a sense of determination. She was stronger than anyone's expectations, and she was going to prove it.
