Akane kicked off her shoes and let out a sigh of relief as she stepped into the tiny foyer of her apartment. It had been a long day at school, followed by an even longer shift at the diner, and all she wanted to do was collapse on the couch and relax.
But as she made her way down the short hallway towards the living room, she could hear the sound of her mother's laughter, high and tinkling, mingling with the deeper tones of a man's voice. Akane's heart sank. She had been hoping to avoid her mother's new boyfriend for as long as possible.

"Nice to meet you, Akane," Ted said, grinning at her. "I've heard a lot about you."
Before Akane could respond, her mother chimed in. "Akane, Ted and I have some news. We've decided that it's time for you to move out of the apartment and in with Nekomaru, the father of your child."
Akane's face flamed with embarrassment. She couldn't believe her mother was discussing her pregnancy in front of Ted. And the thought of moving in with Nekomaru, a man she barely knew, made her stomach churn.
Ted must have sensed her discomfort, because he leaned back in his seat and smirked at her. "You're still young, Akane," he said, his voice dripping with innuendo. "Plenty of time to start a family."
Akane felt a surge of anger. How dare he speak to her like that? She opened her mouth to protest, but her mother was already waving her off.
"It's already been decided, Akane," she slurred. "You'll move out tomorrow. Nekomaru is expecting you."
Akane felt a mix of emotions - anger, sadness, and fear - but she knew she had no choice but to accept their decision. She spent the rest of the evening packing her belongings, shooting angry glances at her mother and Ted.
