The prestigious hospital of Mount Olympus was bustling with activity, but all of that faded into the background for Aphrodite as she found herself on her hands and knees, pleading with the doctor. Her blonde hair cascaded down her back in golden waves, and her blue eyes were wide with desperation.
“Please, doctor. There has to be something you can do,” she begged, her voice trembling.
The door to the examination room swung open, and Hephaestus strode in, his tan skin glistening with a light sheen of sweat from his walk through the fiery forges of Mount Olympus. His dark curly brown hair was disheveled, and his muscular frame filled the doorway.
“Aphrodite, what’s going on?” he asked, his brow furrowed with concern.
The doctor looked up from where he was crouched next to Aphrodite, his expression grave. “I’m afraid it’s too late for an abortion, Aphrodite. The baby is already developed.”
Aphrodite’s cheeks burned with embarrassment, and she shot Hephaestus a sidelong glance. “Well, if you were any good in bed, this wouldn’t be a problem,” she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Hephaestus’s eyes narrowed, but he kept his voice even. “Aphrodite, we had a one-night stand a month ago. This is the consequence of our actions.”
Aphrodite stood up, her hands on her hips. “Consequence, schmonsequence. I’m not ready to be a mother. I’m the goddess of love and beauty, for crying out loud. I can’t be tied down with a baby.”
Hephaestus took a step closer to Aphrodite, his voice low and intense. “Abortion is not an option, Aphrodite. You know that.”
Aphrodite’s eyes flashed with anger, and she lifted her hand, a bolt of electricity crackling at her fingertips. “You forget yourself, Hephaestus. I am a goddess. I could strike you down where you stand.”
Hephaestus didn’t flinch. “But we’re in a hospital, surrounded by mortals. You wouldn’t dare use your powers here.”
Aphrodite’s shoulders sagged, and she let her hand drop to her side. “You’re right,” she said, her voice quiet. “I’m sorry. I’m just… I’m scared, Hephaestus. I’m afraid of being a mother. What if I can’t protect my child?”
Hephaestus’s expression softened, and he reached out to take Aphrodite’s hand. “You’ll be a great mother, Aphrodite. I know you will.”
Aphrodite looked up at Hephaestus, her eyes shining with unshed tears. “Really?”
Hephaestus smiled. “Really. And besides, I’ll be there to help you every step of the way.”
Aphrodite rolled her eyes. “Fine, I’ll keep the baby, but don’t think this makes you a father.”
Hephaestus laughed. “We’ll see about that.”
Nine months later, on July 9th, Aphrodite gave birth to twins, a boy and a girl, named Leo and Piper. The doctor immediately took the babies away for examination, leaving Aphrodite and Hephaestus waiting anxiously.
Two hours later, the doctor returned with the swaddled and asleep twins, handing them to Aphrodite. “Congratulations, Aphrodite. You have a beautiful family.”
Aphrodite looked down at her children, her heart swelling with love. Leo’s tiny fists were clenched, and Piper’s rosebud mouth was pursed in sleep.
The doctor cleared his throat. “There’s something else you should know. Leo is a fire user, meaning he can make fire from his hands and is fireproof. Piper is a charm speak user, meaning she can make people do whatever she wants them to do.”
Aphrodite’s eyes widened, and she looked at Hephaestus, who was equally stunned. The two gods shared a moment of silence, knowing that their children’s abilities would change everything.
But as they looked down at their sleeping children, they knew that they would face whatever challenges came their way, together. After all, they were the children of a goddess and a god, and they were destined for great things.
