The bedchamber of Artemis, goddess of the hunt and the moon, was a sight to behold. Or rather, it was a sight not to behold. The room was in disarray, with clothes and bedsheets strewn about haphazardly. There was no food or drink in sight, and the air was thick with the scent of sweat and stale sheets.
Apollo, god of the sun and music, stood in the doorway, taking in the scene before him. His eyes scanned the room, coming to rest on the figure lying in the bed. Artemis looked pale and weak, her hair stuck to her forehead with sweat.
“Artemis, what’s going on?” Apollo asked, concern etched on his face. “You look like you haven’t eaten or drunk anything in days.”
Artemis snapped her head towards him, her eyes blazing with anger. “Apollo, get out of my bedchamber. I don’t need your nosiness and lack of respect for my privacy.”
Apollo ignored her protests, approaching the bed with caution. “Artemis, you need to take care of yourself. You haven’t left the bed in days, and the state of this room is concerning.”
Artemis rolled her eyes, turning her head away from him. “I don’t need a lecture from you, Apollo. I’m a goddess, and I can take care of myself.”
Apollo sighed, running a hand through his hair. “Artemis, I’m not trying to lecture you. I’m just worried about you. You’re my sister, and I care about you.”
Artemis softened at his words, but only slightly. “I don’t want to do anything but sleep, Apollo. I have no appetite.”
Apollo tried a different tactic, making a joke about her appearance. “Well, you’re certainly not going to attract any suitors looking like that. When was the last time you took a shower?”
Artemis couldn’t help but laugh, despite herself. “Shut up, Apollo. You’re so annoying.”
Apollo continued with the jokes, making fun of her bedhead and unwashed hair. Artemis’s mood improved, and she asked him to bring her some food.
Apollo left the room, returning with a tray of food. Artemis ate, thanking Apollo for his concern.
Apollo suggested that Artemis take a shower and get some fresh air. He offered to accompany her on a hunt, saying it would do her good.
Artemis, despite her initial resistance, agreed. She realized that she needed to move on and focus on her duties as a goddess. She also knew that Apollo, annoying as he could be, only wanted the best for her.
As Artemis got ready for the hunt, she reflected on her situation. She felt guilty about breaking her vow of chastity and getting pregnant. She decided to put the past behind her and focus on her duties as a goddess.
And so, Artemis and Apollo set off on their hunt, the cool air of the forest reviving Artemis’s spirits. Apollo’s annoying presence was a welcome distraction, and Artemis was grateful for his unwelcome intrusion.
