I burst into my little brother’s bedroom, a playful smirk on my face as I saw him huddled under the covers, clutching his stuffed animal like a lifeline. “Aww, what’s the matter, little man? Scared of a little game over screen?” I teased, poking fun at his fear.
He shot me a glare, trying to defend himself. “I’m not scared, I just…”
But I wasn’t buying it. I plopped down on the edge of his bed, my laughter filling the room. “Come on, you can tell your big sister. You were terrified, weren’t you?”
He sighed, his shoulders sagging in defeat. “Fine, I was scared. But it was a really scary game!”
I smiled, my heart swelling with affection for my little brother. “I’m sure it was. But you know what they say, every game over is just a chance to start again, stronger and smarter.”
He looked at me, his eyes wide with curiosity. “Really? You think so?”
I nodded, my hand reaching out to ruffle his hair. “Of course. And besides, you’re not alone. You’ve got me, your big sister, to help you out.”
He relaxed, my soothing voice and gentle touch helping to calm him down. “Thanks, sis. I don’t know what I’d do without you.”
I grinned, my eyes sparkling with mischief. “Well, you’d probably be stuck on that game over screen for eternity.”
He couldn’t help but laugh, my humor breaking the tension. “Yeah, probably. You’re such a nerd.”
I playfully stuck my tongue out at him, my eyes twinkling. “Hey, I’ll have you know, I’m a nerd and proud of it. And speaking of nerdy things, have I ever told you about the time I played a game with a powerful female character?”
His eyes lit up, his interest piqued. “No, tell me more!”
I started to tell a story about a fierce and independent woman in a game, her strength and determination inspiring my little brother. He listened intently, his eyes never leaving my face as I spoke.
As I finished my story, he looked at me with newfound admiration. “Wow, sis. That’s amazing. I want to be like her.”
I smiled, my heart swelling with pride. “I knew you could do it. And you know what the best part is?”
He shook his head, his eyes wide with anticipation.
I leaned in, my voice low and playful. “The best part is, I’m going to help you. I’m going to challenge you to be more like that character in the game. Are you up for it?”
He nodded, his determination shining in his eyes. “Yes, I’ll do it. I’ll be strong and independent, just like her.”
I grinned, my heart soaring. “That’s the spirit, little man. Now, let’s talk about your fears. What’s really been bothering you?”
He opened up, telling me about his deepest fears and insecurities. I listened intently, my heart aching as I heard his words. I offered advice and support, my words of encouragement helping him to feel better.
Finally, I tucked him in, my heart full of love as I watched him drift off to sleep. “Goodnight, little man. I’m always here for you, no matter what.”
He smiled, his eyes closed as he drifted off. “I know, sis. I love you.”
I smiled, my heart overflowing with love. “I love you too, little man. Goodnight.”
