Leo stood in the middle of his living room, surrounded by the mundane objects of his childhood, yet his face was alight with a devilish grin. He wore his black bomber jacket, the white sleeves and yellow accents stark against the dark fabric. It was this smirk that caused his best friend, Emir, to pause in the doorway.
Emir, the redheaded 10-year-old, raised an eyebrow in curiosity. "What are you up to, Leo?" he asked, suspicion lacing his tone.
Leo's grin widened. "I was thinking we could play a game, Emir. Truth or dare?"
Emir scoffed, crossing his arms. "We're too old for that childish game, Leo."
Undeterred, Leo playfully taunted, "Afraid you can't handle it, Emir? Afraid you'll crack under the pressure?"
Emir rolled his eyes, unable to resist the challenge. "Alright, fine. But if we're going to do this, the loser has to do whatever the winner says for the rest of the day."
Leo's eyes gleamed with excitement. "Deal!" he exclaimed, barely able to contain his glee. "I'll go first. Dare."
Emir smirked, contemplating his response. "I dare you to steal a pair of your mom's lingerie from her dresser and wear it for the rest of the day."
Leo's face fell, a mixture of embarrassment and excitement flashing across his features. He hesitated, but the competitive spirit in him refused to back down. "Fine," he huffed. "But you better not laugh."
Emir held up his hands in mock surrender. "I wouldn't dream of it, Leo. I'm sure you'll look great."
Leo disappeared into his mother's bedroom, rummaging through her dresser until he found a black lace bra and panty set. He slipped them on under his clothes, feeling both embarrassed and thrilled by the prospect.
When Leo returned to the living room, Emir couldn't help but notice the difference. "Well, well, well," Emir drawled, unable to resist the opportunity to tease his friend. "Looks like someone's feeling a bit more feminine today."
Leo blushed but stood his ground. "Your turn, Emir," he said, trying to keep his voice steady.
Emir considered his options before finally settling on truth. "Alright, truth it is. Have you ever had a crush on anyone, Leo?"
Leo's face remained impassive, but his eyes gave him away. "No, I haven't," he replied, trying to sound nonchalant.
Emir pressed on. "Really? Not even a little bit?"
Leo sighed, knowing he couldn't hide the truth from his best friend. "Fine. Yes, I've had a crush on someone. Happy now?"
Emir's face lit up with excitement. "Oh, this is going to be good. Who is it, Leo? Do they go to our school? Are they in our grade?"
Leo rolled his eyes. "It's no one you know, Emir. And even if you did, I wouldn't tell you."
Emir pouted, trying to hide his disappointment. "Fine. But you have to tell me one thing. Have you ever told them how you feel?"
Leo shook his head. "No. I'm too scared."
Emir placed a hand on Leo's shoulder. "You know what you need to do, Leo? You need to be bold and direct, just like the female characters we both admire in our favorite books and movies. You need to take a risk and tell them how you feel."
Leo considered Emir's words, knowing that he was right. He took a deep breath before finally nodding. "You're right, Emir. I need to take a risk."
The chapter ends with Leo and Emir shaking on their bet, both excited and nervous about what the day has in store for them.
