Before Amanda could retort, the door swung open, revealing a petite and innocent-looking boy. The women were taken aback, expecting to see the mom instead.
"Uh, hi. I'm Alex. You must be here for the book club," the boy said, his voice barely above a whisper.
The women introduced themselves, and Alex explained that his mom wasn't home. The women felt a little disappointed but quickly recovered, inviting Alex to join their book club instead.
