Bound by Deception

**Chapter 1: The Trap is Set**

Ethan couldn’t keep his eyes off her. Lila Monroe, with her sharp green eyes and a smirk that could cut glass, was a storm in human form. At 27, Ethan had seen plenty of beautiful women, but Lila was different—untouchable, fierce, a wildfire in a leather jacket. She worked at the same dive bar he frequented, slinging drinks with a confidence that made his pulse race. He’d been nursing a crush for months, dropping by every Friday just to catch her sharp tongue and that wicked grin.

Tonight, the bar was a haze of cheap beer and cigarette smoke. Ethan leaned against the counter, nursing a whiskey, when Lila sauntered over, her hips swaying with purpose. 'You gonna stare all night, or you got something to say, Ethan?' she teased, her voice low and dripping with challenge.

He grinned, trying to match her edge. 'Just wondering how someone so damn gorgeous ended up in a dump like this. You’re too good for this place, Lila.'

She laughed, a sharp, biting sound, and leaned in close enough that he could smell the faint spice of her perfume. 'Flattery won’t get you anywhere, sweetheart. But I’ll bite—what’s your deal? You’re here every week, looking like a lost puppy.'

Ethan’s heart thudded. 'Maybe I’m just waiting for the right moment to steal you away from all this.'

Her eyes glinted with something dangerous. 'Careful what you wish for. Some games come with a price.' She flicked a strand of dark hair over her shoulder and turned away, leaving him buzzing with heat and unanswered questions.

That’s when he felt a heavy hand clap down on his shoulder. Turning, Ethan met the cold, calculating gaze of Jace, Lila’s boyfriend. Jace was a wall of a man, all muscle and menace, with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. 'Heard you chatting up my girl,' Jace said, his tone deceptively calm. 'You got a death wish, buddy?'

Ethan raised his hands, trying to defuse the tension. 'Just talking, man. No harm meant.'

Jace’s grin widened, predatory. 'Oh, I think there’s plenty of harm in you. See, Lila’s mine. And I don’t like little shits sniffing around what’s mine. But I’m a reasonable guy. How about we step outside, have a little chat?'

Ethan’s gut screamed at him to bolt, but Lila’s lingering glance held him in place. Against his better judgment, he followed Jace out the back door into the alley, the air thick with the stench of garbage and something darker. Jace lit a cigarette, the ember glowing like a threat. 'Here’s the deal,' he said, exhaling smoke. 'You’re gonna do exactly what I say, or I’ve got some very compromising dirt on you. Yeah, I’ve been watching. I know about that little side hustle of yours—those deals you thought no one saw. One call, and you’re done.'

Ethan’s blood ran cold. How the hell did Jace know? 'What do you want?' he asked, voice tight.

Jace stepped closer, his breath hot and sour. 'You’re gonna be my bitch, Ethan. My personal errand boy. You step out of line, and I ruin you. And Lila? She’s in on it. She doesn’t love it, but she knows her place. You’ll see soon enough.'

Ethan’s eyes darted to the bar’s back door, where Lila stood, arms crossed, her expression unreadable. 'Lila, what the fuck? You’re okay with this?' he demanded, anger flaring.

She didn’t flinch, but her jaw tightened. 'Don’t look at me for salvation, Ethan. I told you—some games have a price. You walked right into this one.' Her voice was steel, but there was a flicker of something else—regret, maybe. She turned away, leaving him with Jace’s looming shadow.

Jace chuckled, low and dirty. 'Get used to it, pretty boy. You’re mine now. And trust me, I’ve got plans for you.' He stepped closer, his hand brushing Ethan’s arm with a sickening promise. 'Stick around, and you might even enjoy it. I can see you’re already sweating. What’s got you so worked up? Thinking about Lila? Or me?'

Ethan’s stomach churned, but his body betrayed him, a rush of heat he couldn’t control. Jace’s grin was feral as he leaned in, whispering, 'We’re gonna have fun breaking you. And Lila? She’ll watch every second.'

The alley seemed to close in, the air thick with unspoken threats and a dark, twisted hunger. Ethan’s mind raced for an escape, but Jace’s grip on his arm was iron. Whatever came next, he knew it would be raw, unrelenting, and would push him to the edge of everything he thought he knew about himself.
