Bubbles, Butting Heads, and Unintended Naked Encounters: A Preschooler's Tutorial on Embarrassing the Teacher

Chapter One: A Damp Surprise

As the last of the preschoolers filed out of the classroom, their choruses of “goodbye” and “see you tomorrow!” still ringing in her ears, Marla surveyed her domain. The tiny chairs were all tucked in, the crayon boxes neatly aligned, and the alphabet rug was free of stray Goldfish crackers. She allowed herself a satisfied sigh; it had been a long day, but a good one.

Just one thing left to do: retrieve her favorite coffee mug from the staff lounge.

Marla glanced at the clock. If she took the long way around, it would add a good five minutes to her commute home. But if she cut through the preschool wing, she could shave off a minute or two. Marla hesitated for a moment, then made her decision. She’d make a quick dash through the girls’ bathroom, snag her mug, and be on her way.

As she entered the bathroom, Marla was greeted by the sight of a small group of preschool girls huddled around the sink, splashing water and giggling. She couldn’t help but smile at their unabashed joy.

“Girls!” she called out, her voice sharp but not unkind. “What are you doing in here? You know you’re not supposed to play in the bathroom.”

The girls scattered like birds, squealing and giggling as they ran for the door. Marla shook her head, a mixture of amusement and exasperation. “And don’t forget to wash your hands!” she called after them.

She spotted her mug on the windowsill and reached for it, but as she turned to leave, her foot slipped on a puddle of water one of the girls had left behind. Marla let out a startled cry as she stumbled, her arms windmilling wildly as she tried to catch her balance.

But it was no use. With a loud thud, Marla found herself sprawled in the empty bathtub, her skirt soaked and her dignity in tatters.

“Well, shit,” she muttered, wincing at her own language. She could already hear the girls whispering and giggling on the other side of the door. Marla sighed, then grinned. If there was one thing she was good at, it was turning a negative into a positive.

She pushed herself up to a sitting position, then froze as she heard a small gasp from behind her. She turned to see one of the preschoolers, Lily, standing in the doorway with a look of shock on her face.

Marla’s mind raced. She could scold Lily for not knocking, or she could use this as a teachable moment. She opted for the latter.

With a wicked grin, Marla pointed a finger at Lily. “Ahhh!” she cried, making her best “scary monster” voice. “I am the bathtub monster, and you have trespassed in my lair!”

Lily’s eyes went wide, and she let out a shriek of terror before turning and running down the hallway. Marla couldn’t help but laugh; she’d never seen a child move so fast.

She took a moment to collect herself, then realized that her skirt was still soaked. She glanced around the bathroom, her eyes settling on the hand dryer. She shrugged, then stood up and hit the button.

As the hot air blasted her skirt, Marla couldn’t help but chuckle at the absurdity of the situation. Here she was, a respected teacher, drying her skirt in a preschool bathroom. But you know what? She was having fun.

Just then, she heard the other preschoolers returning, their voices filled with curiosity. Marla’s eyes sparkled with mischief. She had an idea.

She hit the button on the hand dryer again, then let out another “scary monster” cry. The preschoolers squealed and ran down the hallway, knocking on doors and being more mindful of their actions.

Marla grinned, then grabbed her mug and headed back to her classroom, her skirt still damp but her heart light. She took a deep breath, smiling at the day’s unexpected events and the laughter they brought.

Entering her classroom, she took a sip of her coffee and reflected on the day’s events, already looking forward to the next day’s adventures.

And so, Marla sat at her desk, wet skirt and all, a picture of a woman who embraces the unexpected and turns it into a learning experience.
