The air in Brigitte’s palace was thick with the sweet scent of cotton candy and sugar, a perfume that was fitting for the company she was keeping. Seated around a table laden with treats were some of the most powerful and alluring women in the universe: Aphrodite, Persephone, Hera, Amphitrite, and of course, Brigitte herself.
Each goddess was indulging in her own pregnancy craving. Brigitte was sucking on a giant lollipop that stained her lips a bright shade of red, while Aphrodite was devouring a bowl of chocolate-covered strawberries with a look of pure bliss on her face. Persephone was picking at a plate of cupcakes, her delicate fingers leaving smudges of icing on the pristine white tablecloth. Hera was sipping from a pitcher of ambrosia nectar, her eyes closed in contentment. And Amphitrite was working her way through a bucket of sea salt caramels, her fingers glistening with sticky sweetness.
Brigitte, acting as the group’s moderator, asked each goddess to share their pregnancy cravings and how their husbands reacted to the news.
Aphrodite, with a smirk, revealed that she told Hephaestus by putting a bun in the oven and asking him what that means. The group erupted in laughter as Aphrodite rolled her eyes, commenting on Hephaestus’ dense nature.
Persephone shared that she told Hades by showing him two positive pregnancy tests and his reaction was a mix of shock and excitement. She playfully insulted Hades by calling him a “grumpy old man” who would now have to deal with double the trouble.
Hera, with a proud smile, announced that she told Zeus by placing his crown on her belly and declaring herself the queen of two realms. She chuckled as she recalled Zeus’ panic at the thought of having another son to compete with.
Amphitrite, with a twinkle in her eye, shared that she told Poseidon by presenting him with a tiny trident and a sonogram picture. She laughed as she remembered Poseidon’s excitement and his promise to teach their son the ways of the sea.
Brigitte, with a mischievous grin, revealed that she told Apollo by baking a loaf of bread in the shape of a baby and asking him what it meant. Apollo, thinking it was a joke, laughed it off until she showed him the positive pregnancy test.
The goddesses discussed their husbands’ reactions to the gender of the baby, with Brigitte and Amphitrite expecting boys, Aphrodite expecting a boy and a girl, Persephone expecting boys, and Hera expecting a boy.
Hera, with a competitive streak, challenged the other goddesses to a “baby-off” to see who could give birth to the strongest and most powerful heir. The group laughed and dismissed Hera’s challenge, playfully insulting her for being too serious.
As the conversation wound down, Brigitte, with a knowing smile, asked Hephaestus and Hades how they reacted to finding out it’s twins. Aphrodite and Persephone shared a look, knowing that their ex-husbands’ reactions were not ideal.
Hephaestus, with a bewildered expression, admitted that he was in shock and didn’t know how to react. Aphrodite, with a playful insult, called him a “simpleton” and teased him about his reaction.
Hades, with a grumble, shared that he was overwhelmed by the news and worried about how he would handle two babies at once. Persephone, with a loving smile, reassured him that they would figure it out together.
The goddesses offered their support and advice to Hephaestus and Hades, reminding them that they were not alone in this journey.
The chapter ended with the goddesses leaving Brigitte’s palace, full of laughter, love, and anticipation for the arrival of their little ones.
