The air in Brigitte’s candy-coated palace was thick with the sweet scent of cotton candy and sugar, a perfume that was both cloying and comforting. The goddesses gathered around a table, their hands dipping into an array of delectable treats. Brigitte, her eyes sparkling with mischief, had a mountain of gummy bears piled high in front of her. Aphrodite, her lips stained with chocolate, had a tub of rich chocolate mousse. Persephone, her expression pensive, had a jar of pickles, while Hera, her posture regal, had a plate of ambrosia. Amphitrite, her laughter musical, had a pitcher of sea salt-infused lemonade.
“Apollo thought the ‘bun in the oven’ was a new type of pastry I was experimenting with,” Brigitte began, her voice laced with amusement. The other goddesses chuckled, their eyes alight with amusement.
“Hephaestus reacted to the news of twins by dropping the hammer he was holding! I thought the forge was going to explode,” Aphrodite shared, her laughter echoing through the room.
Persephone chimed in, “Hades just stared at me for a solid minute before saying, ‘I suppose we’ll need to expand the underworld then.’”
Hera rolled her eyes, “Zeus was thrilled at the prospect of another heir, but I had to remind him that we already have plenty of gods and goddesses running around.”
Amphitrite giggled, “Poseidon was excited about having a son to teach the ways of the sea, but he was also worried about the state of his seas after the baby arrives.”
The goddesses laughed, their banter playful and sharp. “At least your husbands were excited, Aphrodite. Mine just asked if I was sure it was his,” Hera said, her tone dry.
Aphrodite retorted, “Well, at least Apollo didn’t try to trade our child for a new lyre!”
The conversation continued, the goddesses discussing the gender of their babies. “I’m having a boy, and I already have the perfect name - Orion,” Brigitte declared, her eyes shining with anticipation.
Amphitrite smiled, “I’m also having a boy, and I’m thinking of naming him Triton, after Poseidon’s own sea creature.”
Aphrodite grinned, “I’m having one of each, a boy and a girl. I think I’ll name them Eros and Psyche.”
Persephone nodded, “I’m having twins as well, a boy and a girl. I’m still deciding on their names, but I’m leaning towards Hades Jr. and Persephone Jr.”
The goddesses burst into laughter, teasing Persephone, “I’m sure Hades will love that!”
The conversation continued, the goddesses discussing their pregnancies, the joys and challenges that came with it. As the sun began to set, they raised a toast to their pregnancies, their husbands, and the future generation of gods and goddesses. The sweet scent of cotton candy and sugar hung in the air, a testament to the sweetness of their friendship and the promise of the future.
