Burning Ambition

Burning Ambition

Chapter 1: Sparks in the Boardroom

Paige Matthews, at 37, was a force of nature. A corporate shark with a razor-sharp mind and a body that could stop traffic, she commanded every room she entered. Her tailored suits hugged her curves like a lover’s caress, and her piercing green eyes could strip a man bare with a single glance. As the newly appointed CEO of Vortex Industries, she wasn’t just climbing the ladder—she’d kicked it down and built her own damn throne. But power came with hunger, a deep, aching need that no boardroom victory could sate.

It was late, the office a labyrinth of shadows and silence, save for the hum of the city beyond the glass walls. Paige sat at her desk, a glass of bourbon in hand, reviewing the latest merger proposal. Her mind, however, kept drifting to Ethan Cross, the cocky, brilliant CFO who’d been challenging her every decision since day one. He was a thorn in her side—and, infuriatingly, a fire in her veins. At 32, he had the kind of chiseled jaw that begged to be kissed and a smirk that promised trouble. Their arguments were electric, charged with a tension that could ignite at any moment.

The door swung open without a knock, and there he was, leaning against the frame like he owned the place. 'Working late again, Paige? Or just avoiding the empty penthouse?' Ethan’s voice was a low drawl, dripping with mockery.

Paige didn’t look up from her papers, though her lips curled into a dangerous smile. 'Careful, Cross. I don’t avoid anything. I conquer it. What do you want? Or are you just here to waste my time?'

He stepped closer, his presence filling the room. 'Oh, I think you know what I want. That merger plan is a disaster, and you’re too stubborn to admit it. But I’m not here to fight about numbers.' His eyes locked on hers, dark and hungry. 'I’m here to fight about something else.'

She stood, her heels clicking against the polished floor as she rounded the desk, closing the distance between them. 'You think you can handle me, Ethan? I chew up little boys like you for breakfast.' Her voice was a purr, laced with challenge, her breath warm against his ear as she leaned in. 'But I’m curious. What kind of fight are we talking about?'

Ethan’s smirk widened, his hand brushing against her hip, bold and unapologetic. 'The kind where we both win, Paige. You’ve been eye-fucking me for weeks. Don’t pretend you haven’t noticed how hard I get just arguing with you.' His words were raw, unfiltered, and they sent a jolt straight through her.

Paige laughed, sharp and wicked, her fingers trailing down his chest, feeling the heat of him through his shirt. 'Oh, I’ve noticed. But I don’t play games I can’t win. If you think you can keep up, prove it. Right here. Right now.' Her eyes glinted with raw desire, her body already thrumming with anticipation.

In a flash, his hands were on her, pulling her against him, her curves pressed tight to his hard frame. Their mouths crashed together, a battle of tongues and teeth, all sharp edges and desperate need. She shoved him back against the desk, papers scattering, her nails digging into his shoulders as she took control. 'Don’t hold back, Cross,' she growled against his lips. 'I want to feel every inch of that cock you’re so proud of.'

His groan was primal, his hands gripping her ass, pulling her closer as he ground against her, letting her feel just how hard he was. 'Fuck, Paige, you’re gonna regret challenging me. I’m gonna make that pussy drip for me.'

She smirked, her breath hot and panting, already wet with the promise of what was to come. 'Promises, promises. Show me.'

Their clothes were a barrier they couldn’t shed fast enough, the air thick with the scent of sweat and lust, their bodies primed for an explosion that had been building for far too long.
