Chapter 1: Sparks in the Neon Glow
Seoul’s nightlife pulsed like a living beast, neon lights bleeding into the humid summer air. Lee Jae Yung stood at the edge of a crowded rooftop bar, his broad shoulders cutting an imposing silhouette against the city skyline. At 25, he was a man who commanded attention without trying—tall for a Korean, with a chiseled jaw and eyes that smoldered with quiet intensity. He sipped his soju, the burn in his throat a distraction from the restless energy coiling in his chest.
Then he saw her.
She was across the bar, laughing with a group of friends, her presence a magnetic force that yanked his gaze and held it hostage. Her name, he’d later learn, was Kim Soo Jin—a woman who looked like she’d walked straight out of a fever dream. Her dark hair cascaded over bare shoulders, her crimson dress hugging every curve with a confidence that screamed she knew exactly how stunning she was. When their eyes met, Jae Yung’s world tilted. His breath caught, his mind short-circuiting as if he’d been struck by lightning. She was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen, and he was already a goner.
Soo Jin’s lips curled into a knowing smirk as she caught his stare. She excused herself from her friends, her stride purposeful as she sauntered over, hips swaying with a rhythm that could stop traffic. Jae Yung straightened, his heart hammering as she stopped just close enough for him to catch the faint scent of her jasmine perfume.
‘Caught you looking,’ she said, her voice low and teasing, her eyes glinting with mischief. ‘Do I need to charge you for the view, or are you just gonna stand there gawking all night?’
Jae Yung grinned, recovering just enough to match her sharpness. ‘If I’m paying, I expect a hell of a show. You gonna deliver, or are you all talk?’
She laughed, a sound that sent a jolt straight through him. ‘Oh, I deliver. But I don’t perform for just anyone. You’ve got ten seconds to prove you’re worth my time.’
‘Ten seconds?’ He leaned in slightly, his voice dropping to a husky murmur. ‘I could make you forget your own name in half that.’
Her eyes flashed with challenge, and she stepped closer, the heat of her body brushing against his. ‘Big words. I hope you’ve got the game to back them up, pretty boy.’
‘Stick around, and I’ll show you more than game,’ he shot back, his pulse racing as her gaze dipped to his lips, then back up to meet his eyes. The air between them crackled, charged with a raw, unspoken hunger.
Soo Jin tilted her head, her fingers brushing his arm with a deliberate slowness that set his skin on fire. ‘I don’t play nice, Jae Yung. If you’re in, you’d better keep up. I’m not here to hold your hand.’
‘Good,’ he said, his voice rough with want. ‘I don’t need nice. I need you.’
Her smile turned wicked, and she grabbed his wrist, pulling him toward a shadowed corner of the rooftop, away from prying eyes. The city’s hum faded as they pressed against the cool brick wall, her body flush against his. His hands found her hips, gripping with a need he couldn’t suppress, while her fingers tangled in his hair, tugging just hard enough to make him growl.
‘You’re trouble,’ he muttered, his lips hovering over hers, the heat of her breath driving him wild.
‘And you love it,’ she whispered, her voice dripping with promise. She pressed herself harder against him, and he could feel every inch of her, his body responding with a fierce, aching need. Their lips were a heartbeat away from crashing together, the tension ready to snap like a taut wire, promising an explosion of heat and desire that neither could resist.
