Burning Temptation

Burning Temptation

Chapter 1: Sparks in the Shadows

The dimly lit bar on the edge of town was a haven for secrets, and tonight, it was brimming with unspoken desires. Lila Voss, a sharp-tongued journalist with a penchant for danger, sat at the counter, her crimson lipstick a stark contrast to the black leather jacket hugging her curves. She swirled the amber liquid in her glass, her piercing green eyes scanning the room for a story—or a thrill. That’s when she saw him.

Damon Creed, a rugged ex-soldier turned private investigator, leaned against the far wall, his dark gaze locked on her like a predator sizing up prey. But Lila wasn’t one to be hunted. She smirked, raising her glass in a mock toast before downing the whiskey in one go. The burn in her throat matched the heat building in her core as he pushed off the wall and sauntered over.

'Looking for trouble, or just a headline?' Damon’s voice was a low growl, laced with challenge as he slid onto the stool beside her.

Lila tilted her head, her lips curling into a wicked grin. 'Depends. You got a story worth writing, or are you just here to waste my time?'

He chuckled, a sound that sent a shiver down her spine. 'Oh, I’ve got plenty to say, sweetheart. But I’m more of a show, not tell, kind of guy.'

Her eyes narrowed, but the glint in them betrayed her intrigue. 'Big talk. Hope you’ve got the goods to back it up, soldier.'

Damon leaned in, his breath hot against her ear. 'Stick around, and I’ll give you a front-page exclusive.'

The air between them crackled, charged with a tension that neither could ignore. Lila’s pulse quickened, but she wasn’t about to let him take the lead. She stood, brushing past him with deliberate slowness, her hip grazing his thigh. 'Follow me if you’re not all talk,' she tossed over her shoulder, heading for the narrow hallway that led to the back rooms.

Damon didn’t hesitate, his boots heavy on the floor as he trailed her. The hallway was dark, the faint hum of the bar fading as they reached a secluded corner. Lila turned, pinning him with a look that was all fire and defiance. 'So, Creed. You gonna show me what you’ve got, or am I wasting my night?'

His smirk was dangerous, his hands already reaching for her waist. 'Darlin’, I’m about to make your pen run out of ink.'

She laughed, sharp and biting, but her hands were on his chest, fingers curling into his shirt as she yanked him closer. Their lips crashed together, a collision of hunger and heat, tongues battling for dominance. Lila’s nails dug into his shoulders, and Damon groaned, his grip tightening on her hips as he pressed her against the wall. She could feel him, hard and insistent against her, and a smirk played on her lips even as they kissed.

'Not bad,' she panted, breaking away just enough to taunt him. 'But I’m not impressed yet.'

His eyes darkened, a wicked promise in them. 'Oh, you will be.'

He slid a hand down, fingers teasing the edge of her skirt, and Lila’s breath hitched, her body already betraying her cool exterior. She was wet, aching, and damn if she didn’t want to see just how far this game would go. As his touch grew bolder, her own hand slipped lower, finding him straining against his jeans. 'Let’s see if you can keep up,' she whispered, her voice dripping with challenge, ready to ignite an inferno.
