Chapter 1: Sparks in the Wilderness
The summer air hung heavy with the scent of pine and smoke as the campfire crackled under a starlit sky. Slava leaned against a rough-hewn log, his sharp eyes glinting with mischief as he watched Arina across the flickering flames. She sat cross-legged, her petite frame wrapped in a flannel shirt, the fabric clinging just enough to hint at the curves beneath—modest, yet maddening. Her slightly tanned skin glowed in the firelight, and her dark eyes darted away every time he caught her gaze. She was shy, sure, but Slava could sense a quiet strength in her, a fire waiting to be stoked.
'You're awfully quiet tonight, Arina,' Slava drawled, his voice low and teasing as he tossed a twig into the fire. 'What’s going on in that pretty little head of yours? Planning to run off into the woods and leave me all alone?'
Arina’s lips quirked into a small smirk, her fingers fidgeting with the hem of her shirt. 'Maybe I am,' she shot back, her tone sharper than he expected. 'You’d probably get lost chasing after me, city boy. I know these woods better than you know your own hands.'
Slava chuckled, leaning forward, elbows on his knees, his gaze locking with hers. 'Oh, I know my hands just fine, sweetheart. And I’d bet they’d find you faster than you think.'
Her cheeks flushed, but she didn’t look away this time. Instead, she tilted her head, a challenge in her eyes. 'Big talk for a guy who can’t even start a fire without a lighter. Prove it, then. Come closer. Or are you scared of a little heat?'
That was all the invitation he needed. Slava stood, dusting off his jeans, and sauntered over to her side of the fire, the shadows playing across his angular jaw. He dropped down beside her, close enough that their thighs brushed, the contact sending a jolt through him. Arina didn’t flinch, didn’t pull away. If anything, her posture stiffened, like she was daring him to make the next move.
'You’re trouble, you know that?' he murmured, his voice dropping an octave as he reached out, his fingers brushing the collar of her flannel shirt. 'Hiding all that fire under this shy little act. I see right through you.'
Arina’s breath hitched, but her eyes narrowed, a wicked edge to her smile. 'And you’re all talk, Slava. If you see so much, why don’t you do something about it? Or are you just gonna stare at me all night?'
His grin turned feral as his fingers deftly slipped the top button of her shirt free, revealing just a hint of smooth, sun-kissed skin. 'Oh, I’m gonna do plenty, darling. But I’m taking my time. Gotta savor the chase before I catch you.'
Her hand shot up, gripping his wrist—not to stop him, but to pull him closer, her nails digging into his skin just enough to sting. 'I’m no prey, Slava,' she hissed, her voice dripping with defiance. 'If you want me, you’d better keep up. I don’t wait for slowpokes.'
The air between them crackled hotter than the fire, tension coiling tight as his other hand slid to her waist, pulling her flush against him. Her breath was warm against his neck, her body firm and unyielding, and Slava felt himself growing hard just from the sheer challenge of her. He popped another button, then another, until the fabric parted to reveal the swell of her breasts, her chest rising and falling with quick, sharp breaths.
'Fuck, Arina,' he growled, his thumb brushing the edge of her bra. 'You’re gonna drive me insane before I even get started.'
She laughed, low and throaty, her hand sliding up his chest to grip the back of his neck. 'Good. I like my men a little crazy. Now shut up and kiss me before I change my mind.'
Their lips crashed together, hungry and fierce, the taste of smoke and desire mingling as the world around them faded to nothing but heat and need. Slava’s hands roamed, desperate to feel every inch of her, while Arina matched his intensity, her fingers tangling in his hair, pulling just hard enough to make him groan. The night was young, and the wilderness was theirs to claim.
