Alex was sprawled out on the couch, her long legs stretched out in front of her as she aimlessly scrolled through her phone. She was lost in a sea of social media, not really paying attention to anything in particular. That is, until she heard the sound of the front door opening.
Tim walked into the apartment, his face etched with worry. He approached Alex tentatively, like a deer stepping into a clearing unsure of what it might find.
"Hey, can we talk?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Alex rolled her eyes, not bothering to look up from her phone. "What is it now?" she asked, her tone bordering on annoyed.
Tim took a deep breath, steeling himself for the conversation he was about to have. "I've been feeling insecure about our relationship," he blurted out. "I can't help but worry that you'll leave me for someone who can protect and provide for you better."
Alex couldn't help but laugh at Tim's concerns. She put down her phone and looked at him, her eyes sparkling with amusement. "You're such a worrywart," she teased, calling him by the nickname she had given him.
Tim looked at her, his face still etched with worry. "But seriously, why did you choose me?" he asked. "Why did you pick a scrawny, weak guy like me?"
Alex smirked, a mischievous glint in her eye. "Because you're the only one who can keep up with me," she said, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Tim looked at her, unsure of how to take her response. Alex, sensing his confusion, got up from the couch and wrapped her arms around him. "I'm kidding, you know that," she said, her voice softer now. "I love you for who you are, not for what you can do for me."
Tim felt a small sense of relief wash over him. But his insecurities still lingered. "Will you stay with me forever?" he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.
Alex, never one to make promises she couldn't keep, looked at him with a serious expression. "I'll think about it," she said, her tone light but her words sincere.
Tim felt a pang of disappointment, but Alex quickly sensed it and reassured him. "I'm serious about us, Tim," she said, her voice firm. "I love you, and I want to be with you. I just can't make promises I can't keep."
Tim, feeling a little better, asked Alex if there was anything he could do to make her stay. Alex, with a mischievous glint in her eye, told him to show her how much he loved her.
Tim, feeling emboldened, took Alex's hand and led her to the bedroom. The rest of the chapter was spent with the couple exploring their desires and strengthening their bond.
As they lay in bed, exhausted and satisfied, Alex whispered to Tim that she wasn't going anywhere. Tim, feeling secure and loved, fell asleep in Alex's arms.
