The classroom was filled with the familiar scent of freshly sharpened pencils and the rustling of turned pages as Mr. Smith wrote notes on the chalkboard. Ivory sat in the third row, her eyes focused on the board, but her mind was elsewhere. She couldn't help but think about her two dads, Apollo and Dionysus, and how they balanced each other out in her life.
Sarah, her desk-mate, leaned over and whispered, "Hey Ivory, what's it like having two dads? Is it, like, double the fun?"
Ivory rolled her eyes, a small smile playing on her lips. "Oh, you have no idea. I have to deal with double the dad jokes."
Jake, the boy who sat on Sarah's other side, chimed in, "But seriously, how does that even work? Do they, like, take turns being your dad?"
Ivory smirked, "Nope. They're both my dads all the time. Apollo's the responsible one, and Dionysus is... well, let's just say he's the life of the party."
Sarah raised an eyebrow, "So, wait, do they, like, fight for control over your life?"
Ivory laughed, "Nah, they're actually really good at working together. They balance each other out."
Jake looked intrigued, "That's pretty cool. I can't even imagine having two dads."
Sarah nodded in agreement, "Yeah, but imagine having two dads who are both hot gods. Must be tough, right Ivory?"
Ivory rolled her eyes again, "Please, they're my dads. I don't think of them like that."
Sarah and Jake exchanged a look, "Sure, sure."
The class continued, but Ivory's mind was still on her dads. She couldn't help but think about how different, yet similar, they were. Apollo, the god of the sun, was always so responsible and level-headed. He was the one who made sure she did her homework and practiced her violin. Dionysus, the god of wine and parties, was always so carefree and fun-loving. He was the one who taught her how to dance and play the guitar.
As the bell rang, Ivory gathered her things and prepared to leave. Sarah and Jake couldn't help but ask one more question, "Hey Ivory, do they ever, like, fight over who gets to punish you?"
Ivory laughed, "Nope, they leave that to my mom."
The class erupted in laughter as Ivory walked out, shaking her head. She couldn't help but smile to herself, grateful for the unique family she had. She knew that not everyone understood her situation, but she wouldn't have it any other way. Her dads may be gods, but at the end of the day, they were her dads, and she loved them both dearly.
