Cliffs of Desire

Cliffs of Desire

Chapter 1: Embers of Confession

The wind howled across the jagged cliffs of Phoenix Drop, carrying the scent of salt and damp earth as the last embers of sunset bled into the horizon. Aphmau stood with her arms crossed, the cool evening air prickling against her exposed skin where her leather armor left gaps—her toned arms, the curve of her collarbone, the dip of her waist. Beside her, Celestia’s long silver hair whipped like a banner in the breeze, her golden eyes reflecting the fading light as she stared into the abyss below. The drop was sheer, a plunge into the churning mist where the Irene Dimension had once threatened to swallow them whole.

“He didn’t even hesitate,” Aphmau murmured, her voice rough with something raw—grief, admiration, maybe both. She turned her head just enough to catch Celestia’s profile, the sharp angle of her cheekbone, the way her full lips pressed into a thin line. “Aaron just… *jumped*. Like it was nothing.”

Celestia exhaled sharply through her nose, her fingers tightening around the flask she’d pulled from her belt. The mead inside sloshed, rich and amber, catching the last of the daylight. “Because it *was* nothing to him,” she said, unscrewing the cap with a sharp twist. “Not compared to Garroth. Not compared to *us*.” She took a long swig, the liquid glinting as it trickled down her throat, then offered it to Aphmau.

Their fingers brushed as Aphmau took the flask, the contact sending a jolt through her—warm, electric. She drank deeply, the mead burning its way down, pooling heat in her stomach. It was strong, sweet with honey and something darker, like caramelized figs. The alcohol hit her fast, loosening the knot of tension in her shoulders. She passed it back, watching as Celestia’s throat worked again, the graceful line of her neck flushed now from the drink.

“We should’ve told him,” Aphmau said, her voice softer now, the edges blunted by the mead. “That we—” She cut herself off, biting her lower lip. The words hung there, unspoken, heavy as the silence between them.

Celestia turned fully toward her, the wind plastering her thin tunic against her body, outlining the swell of her breasts, the dip of her waist, the way her hips flared just enough to make Aphmau’s pulse stutter. “That we *what*?” she pressed, her voice low, almost a purr, daring Aphmau to finish the thought.

Aphmau swallowed hard. The mead had made her bold, or maybe it was just the way Celestia was looking at her—like she was the only thing in the world worth devouring. “That we *need* him,” she admitted. “That we can’t just… lose people like this and act like it’s fine.”

Celestia stepped closer, close enough that Aphmau could feel the heat radiating off her, could smell the mead on her breath mixed with something sweeter, something that was just *her*. “It’s not fine,” Celestia murmured. Her hand lifted, fingers hovering near Aphmau’s cheek before finally brushing a stray lock of dark hair behind her ear. The touch was featherlight, but it sent a shiver down Aphmau’s spine. “But we’re still here. *You’re* still here.”

Aphmau’s breath hitched. She should’ve pulled away, made a quip, deflected. But the way Celestia’s golden eyes burned into her—like she’d been starving for years and Aphmau was the feast—made her knees weak. “Celestia,” she whispered, a warning or a plea, she wasn’t sure which.

Celestia’s answer was to close the distance, her free hand sliding around Aphmau’s waist, pulling her flush against her body. The flask clattered to the ground, forgotten, as Celestia’s mouth crashed into hers. The kiss was *fire*. Aphmau gasped into it, her hands gripping Celestia’s shoulders, nails digging in through the fabric. Celestia’s lips were soft but demanding, her tongue sweeping into Aphmau’s mouth with a confidence that made her head spin. The mead taste of her, the way her teeth nipped at Aphmau’s lower lip before soothing the sting with a slow, wet stroke—it was too much. Aphmau moaned, her body arching into Celestia’s, the friction of their breasts pressing together sending sparks straight to her core.

When they broke apart, both were panting, chests heaving in sync. Celestia’s eyes were dark with desire, her lips swollen. “I’ve wanted to do that for *years*,” she confessed, voice rough with need.

Aphmau’s heart hammered. “Then why the hell didn’t you?” she shot back, her own voice dripping with challenge.

Celestia’s thumb traced the curve of Aphmau’s jaw, her touch reverent yet possessive. “Because every time I thought about it, I pictured you dead in a ditch because I’d distracted you,” she admitted, voice cracking. “I couldn’t bear losing you.”

Aphmau’s breath caught. “You *idiot*,” she whispered, hands sliding up to cup Celestia’s face. “I’ve been just as terrified. Every battle, every hit you took for me—I wanted to *scream*.”

Celestia’s eyes burned hotter. “So why didn’t you?” she challenged, her grip on Aphmau’s waist tightening.

“Because I didn’t want to be the reason you hesitated,” Aphmau fired back, her own resolve steeling. “I’m not some damsel, Celestia.”

Celestia let out a shaky laugh, forehead dropping to rest against Aphmau’s. “We’re both so *stupid*.”

Aphmau smirked, fingers tangling in Celestia’s silver hair. “Yeah. We are.”

Celestia’s voice dropped to a husky growl. “Come home with me. Now.”

It wasn’t a question—it was a command wrapped in raw desire. Aphmau didn’t hesitate, her own hunger matching Celestia’s. “Lead the way,” she purred, already imagining the heat of their bodies pressed together, the taste of sweat on skin, the way she’d make Celestia gasp and moan under her touch as they stumbled toward the cliffside home, the promise of something wet, dripping, and explosive waiting just beyond the door.
