Felicity and I stumbled through the door of her luxurious penthouse, the clinking of our champagne glasses still echoing in my ears. The night had been a whirlwind of flashing lights and thumping music, and I was grateful to finally be able to relax in the comfort of Felicity's home.
But my moment of peace was short-lived. As soon as we stepped inside, Felicity's friend Victoria was there to greet us. She was a successful businesswoman in her late 40s, with sharp eyes and an even sharper tongue. She appraised me with a cold stare, making me feel self-conscious about my youthful appearance.
"Victoria, this is Ethan," Felicity introduced me, a hint of amusement in her voice. "Ethan, this is Victoria."
Victoria nodded in my direction, her lips curling into a smirk. "Nice to meet you, pretty boy."
I tried to brush off her insult, but Victoria wasn't finished. "You're awfully young to be dating a woman like Felicity," she continued, her eyes narrowing. "How do you plan on keeping up with her?"
I opened my mouth to defend myself, but Victoria cut me off. "Your innocence is unattractive," she said, her voice dripping with disdain. "You need to mature if you want to keep Felicity interested."
Felicity chuckled, agreeing with Victoria. "Ethan is a bit naive, isn't he?" she teased.
I felt my face flush with embarrassment. I wanted to protest, to tell them that I was more than just a pretty face, but Victoria wasn't done with me yet. She stood up and walked over to me, her heels clicking against the marble floor. She looked me directly in the eyes, her gaze challenging.
Without warning, she raised her hand and slapped me hard across the face. I cried out in shock and pain, tears springing to my eyes.
"That was a necessary wake-up call," Victoria sneered, her hand still raised. "You need to toughen up if you want to keep up with Felicity."
I tried to protest, to tell her that I wasn't weak, but Victoria interrupted me. "Your emotions are weak," she said, her voice cold and detached. "You need to learn to control them."
Felicity, still amused, agreed with Victoria. "Ethan needs to grow up," she said, a hint of disappointment in her voice.
Victoria, satisfied with her lesson, sat back down and continued to chat with Felicity, ignoring my presence. I tried to leave, to escape the humiliation and pain, but Victoria stopped me.
"You need to stay and learn from this experience," she said, her voice firm. "I will not tolerate weakness in my presence."
I felt trapped, overwhelmed. But I refused to let Victoria see me break. I took a deep breath and sat down, determined to prove her wrong. I would show her that I was strong, that I was worthy of Felicity's love.
I just hoped I could survive Victoria's lessons.
