The trendy rooftop bar was buzzing with energy as Veronica and Jake walked in. Veronica was greeted warmly by her group of female friends, all of whom were confident, successful, and mature. Jake, on the other hand, was met with disdainful looks and whispers.
"Who's the boy toy?" one of Veronica's friends asked, raising an eyebrow as she looked Jake up and down.
Veronica laughed and introduced Jake to the group. "This is Jake, my boyfriend. Jake, these are my girls."
The women immediately began to slap Jake playfully on the arm and make jokes about his youth. Jake tried to laugh along, but he started to feel uncomfortable and out of place among the group of confident, experienced women.
Veronica noticed Jake's discomfort and pulled him aside, whispering in his ear, "Don't mind them, they're just teasing. Don't take it personally."
Jake nodded, but he couldn't help feeling inadequate compared to the successful men that Veronica's friends were used to dating. Veronica sensed Jake's insecurity and took his hand, leading him back to the group.
"Jake is more than enough for me," Veronica asserted, standing up for him.
One of Veronica's friends, a sharp-tongued lawyer named Sarah, made a cutting remark about Jake's lack of career prospects.
Veronica quickly shot back with a witty retort, defending Jake and putting Sarah in her place. Jake was impressed by Veronica's quick thinking and confidence. He started to feel more at ease with the group, and even began to enjoy their playful banter.
As the night wore on, Jake became more and more enamored with Veronica and her friends. He realized that he had a lot to learn from them, and that he was lucky to be with someone as strong and confident as Veronica.
