Cousins After Dark

Cousins After Dark

Chapter 1: A Playful Spark

The neon lights of the city pulsed like a heartbeat as Ben and Dan stumbled out of the dive bar, laughter spilling from their lips. The night air was cool against their flushed skin, the buzz of cheap beer still humming in their veins. They’d always been close—cousins who grew up more like brothers—but tonight, something felt different. Electric.

‘Dude, you hit like a goddamn feather,’ Ben teased, rubbing his ass with an exaggerated wince after Dan had landed a playful smack during a dumb bet over who could chug faster. At 20, Ben was all lean muscle and cocky grins, his dark hair a mess from the night’s antics.

Dan, five years older and broader in the shoulders, smirked, his hazel eyes glinting with mischief. ‘Oh, please. You’re just begging for another one, aren’t you? Bet you liked it.’ He gave Ben a nudge, his voice dripping with playful challenge.

Ben stopped in his tracks on the empty sidewalk, turning to face Dan with a raised brow. ‘Careful, man. Keep talking like that, and I might think you’re into it.’ His tone was sharp, but there was a flicker of curiosity in his blue eyes.

Dan leaned in close, his breath warm against Ben’s ear, voice low and daring. ‘Maybe I am. Got a little tingle from smacking that ass of yours. What about you? Don’t lie to me, kid.’

Ben’s heart skipped, but he didn’t pull back. Instead, he matched Dan’s smirk with one of his own. ‘Fine. Yeah, it got me... curious. So what? You gonna do something about it, or just talk shit all night?’

Dan’s grin widened, a predator catching the scent of prey. ‘Oh, I’ve got ideas. Why don’t we take this back to your place and... have some fun with it? No one’s gotta know.’ His words hung heavy, a secret wrapped in temptation.

Ben hesitated for half a second, the weight of the suggestion sinking in. But the thrill of the unknown, the forbidden, was too much to resist. ‘Fuck it. Let’s go. But if you suck at this, I’m never letting you live it down.’

The walk to Ben’s apartment was charged, every brush of their shoulders igniting sparks. They kept the banter sharp to mask the nervous edge creeping in. ‘You ever even thought about this kinda thing?’ Ben asked, unlocking his door with a shaky hand.

Dan shrugged, stepping inside, his voice casual but his eyes intense. ‘Not really. But I’m game to figure it out. You?’

‘Same. Guess we’re both flying blind here,’ Ben shot back, kicking the door shut behind them. The small living room felt suddenly smaller, the air thick with unspoken tension. They stood there for a moment, sizing each other up like they were about to spar instead of... whatever this was.

‘So, how do we even start?’ Dan asked, a rare crack of uncertainty in his voice as he tugged at the hem of his shirt.

Ben laughed, sharp and quick, trying to cut through the nerves. ‘Hell if I know. Strip, I guess? See where it takes us?’

Dan nodded, peeling off his shirt to reveal a chest dusted with dark hair, muscles flexing with every move. ‘Your turn, smartass. Don’t chicken out now.’

Ben rolled his eyes but followed suit, tossing his tee aside, his lean frame catching the dim light. They stood there, bare-chested, the heat between them building. ‘Still think I hit like a feather?’ Ben quipped, stepping closer, his voice low.

Dan’s gaze dropped to Ben’s lips, then back up, a hungry edge sharpening his features. ‘Nah. I think you’re about to hit a whole lot harder.’ He reached out, his hand brushing Ben’s waist, tentative but bold enough to send a jolt through them both.

Their breaths hitched, the space between them shrinking until their lips were inches apart. The nervous energy was still there, but so was the pull—raw, undeniable. Ben’s hand found Dan’s chest, fingers curling against warm skin. ‘This stays between us, right?’

‘Fuck yeah, it does,’ Dan murmured, his voice rough as his hand slid lower, testing, teasing. ‘Now shut up and let’s see how far we’re willing to go.’

Their lips crashed together, clumsy at first but quickly hungry, the taste of beer and risk mingling as hands roamed, exploring uncharted territory. The night was just beginning, and they were already teetering on the edge of something explosive.
