Cousins by Blood, Lovers by Night: Liz's Surprise Visit

Chapter One: “Cousin Liz Comes to Town”

The shrill ringing of my phone interrupted the peaceful solitude of my cozy apartment. I glanced at the screen and saw a name that I hadn’t seen in years – my cousin Liz. I sighed and answered the call.

“Hey, Liz, what’s up?” I said, trying to keep the annoyance out of my voice.

“Hey, cuz! I hope I’m not interrupting anything,” she chirped.

I looked around my apartment, which was in a state of mild disarray. “Nope, just lounging around,” I lied.

“Great! I have some exciting news. I’m coming to visit you!” she exclaimed.

I groaned inwardly. Liz was notorious for her lack of planning and advanced notice. “When are you getting here?” I asked, already mentally making a list of things I needed to do to prepare for her arrival.

“I’m pulling into town in about an hour,” she said cheerfully.

I rolled my eyes. “Of course you are,” I muttered, hanging up the phone and jumping into action.

I quickly tidied up the apartment, muttering playful insults under my breath about Liz’s lack of consideration. “How does she expect me to drop everything on such short notice?” I grumbled, straightening up the living room.

Despite my annoyance, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of excitement at the prospect of seeing Liz. We had always been close, despite our differences. She was outgoing and spontaneous, while I was more reserved and cautious. But we had a deep bond that had only grown stronger over the years.

The doorbell rang, and I took a deep breath before opening the door. “Liz! What a surprise,” I said, greeting her with a mixture of affection and exasperation.

Liz swept into the apartment, her eyes taking in every detail. “Wow, this place is amazing!” she exclaimed. “You always did have great taste.”

I rolled my eyes. “Yeah, well, don’t get too comfortable. This isn’t the Ritz,” I said, making a sarcastic remark about Liz’s own living situation.

Liz laughed and gave me a hug. “I know, I know. But I’m so excited to be here! It’s been too long since we’ve seen each other.”

I couldn’t argue with that. We had both been busy with our lives, and it had been years since we had spent any real quality time together.

Liz glanced over at the mantle and noticed a photo of my ex. “Oh, is that your ex?” she asked, raising an eyebrow.

I quickly changed the subject. “So, what brings you to town? I didn’t even know you were planning a visit.”

Liz shrugged. “I just needed a change of scenery. And I thought, why not visit my favorite cousin?”

I smiled, despite myself. “Aww, that’s sweet. But what about your job? Don’t you have to work?”

Liz waved her hand dismissively. “I’ll figure it out. I’m looking to ‘let loose’ during this visit, if you know what I mean.”

I raised an eyebrow. “Oh, really? And what does that entail, exactly?”

Liz grinned. “Well, for starters, I want to go out and find you a date. You’re too cute to be sitting here all alone on a Friday night.”

I tried to protest, but Liz was insistent. “Come on, it’ll be fun! You need to get out there and meet new people.”

I sighed. “Fine, I’ll go out with you. But no promises.”

Liz playfully flirted with me, making me blush and try to deflect. “Oh, come on, cuz. You know you’re hot stuff. You just need a little push in the right direction.”

I tried to keep up, but Liz’s risqué topics and teasing about my innocence made me blush easily. “You’re such a bad influence,” I said, playfully insulting Liz’s past.

Liz leaned in close to me, making my heart race. “Oh, come on. You know you secretly love it,” she whispered, her breath hot on my ear.

I tried to keep my cool, but the unexpected intimacy of the moment made me feel flustered and excited. “You’re such a troublemaker,” I said, trying to sound stern but failing.

Liz grinned and opened a bottle of wine. “Well, cuz, it’s going to be a wild ride. Are you ready?”

I hesitated for a moment, but then poured two glasses of wine and smiled. “Bring it on, Liz. I’m ready for anything.”
