Craving the Forbidden

Craving the Forbidden

**Chapter 1: Sparks of Envy**

The sun dipped low over the city, casting a golden haze through the windows of Mia’s chic loft apartment. I, Elise, sat cross-legged on her plush velvet couch, sipping a crisp glass of rosé, while Mia flitted about, her laughter like a melody. We’d been friends since college, thick as thieves, but today, something—or rather, someone—shifted the air between us.

The door swung open, and in walked a vision of youthful charm: Mia’s little brother, Caleb. At twenty-two, he was all lean muscle and boyish grins, his tousled brown hair falling just over his piercing green eyes. He wore a fitted tee that hugged his frame, and I couldn’t help but notice the way his jeans clung to his hips. Damn, he’d grown up.

“Hey, sis,” Caleb drawled, dropping a duffel bag by the door. His voice had a lazy, confident edge that sent a shiver down my spine. “And hey, Elise. Been a while.”

I smirked, setting my glass down. “Well, well, if it isn’t little Caleb. Not so little anymore, are you?” My tone was teasing, but my eyes lingered a beat too long. He caught it, his grin widening.

“Guess I’ve had a growth spurt,” he shot back, winking. “You still bossing everyone around, Elise?”

“Only the ones worth bossing,” I quipped, crossing my legs deliberately, my skirt riding up just enough to make a point. Mia rolled her eyes, oblivious to the undercurrent crackling between us.

“Caleb’s just crashing here for the weekend,” she said, ruffling his hair like he was still twelve. “Isn’t he the cutest? I swear, I’ve got the best little brother.”

I felt a pang, sharp and unexpected, twist in my chest. Jealousy. Not of their bond, but of her having this adorable, cocky little plaything under her roof. I wanted a cute little boy to tease, to toy with, to… well, let’s just say my thoughts weren’t pure. “Must be nice,” I said, my voice dripping with mock sweetness. “I wouldn’t mind a charming little distraction like that. Where do I sign up?”

Caleb chuckled, leaning against the counter, his gaze locking with mine. “I’m not sure you could handle me, Elise. I’m a lot to keep up with.”

“Oh, sweetheart,” I purred, standing to close the distance between us, my heels clicking on the hardwood. “I eat challenges for breakfast. Care to test that theory?”

Mia groaned, oblivious to the heat simmering beneath our words. “You two, behave. I’m grabbing some takeout menus. Don’t burn the place down.” She disappeared into the kitchen, leaving us alone.

Caleb’s eyes darkened, his smirk turning predatory. “You’re trouble, aren’t you?” he murmured, stepping closer. I could feel the warmth radiating off him, the faint scent of his cologne making my pulse race.

“Only the best kind,” I replied, my voice low, daring. My fingers brushed against his arm, testing the waters. His skin was hot, firm, and I wanted more. “Question is, can you keep up with trouble?”

He leaned in, his breath grazing my ear. “Try me, Elise. I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve.”

My heart thudded as I tilted my head, our lips inches apart. I could feel the tension coiling tight, my body already aching for what was coming. I wasn’t about to play the shy girl—I wanted him, and I’d have him. Right here, right now, if I had my way. My hand slid to his chest, feeling the hard planes beneath his shirt, and I whispered, “Show me, then. I’m all yours to impress.”

His hand found my waist, pulling me flush against him, and I felt the evidence of his desire pressing into me. God, he was hard already, and I was dripping with anticipation. This was going to be explosive.
