The living room of our trailer was always too small, the walls closing in like a cage. But that evening, as I huddled on the couch, engrossed in a worn-out book, it felt smaller than ever. The sound of a car door slamming shut startled me, sending a shiver down my spine. I knew what it meant - my father was home.
He stumbled through the front door, his footsteps heavy and unsteady. The smell of alcohol and despair clung to him like a second skin. He plopped down on the chair across from me, cursing under his breath about his latest job loss. I tried to ignore him, focusing on the pages in front of me, but it was impossible.
My father's gaze shifted to me, his eyes narrowing with a drunken intensity. He taunted me, calling me "his little woman" and "the only one who understands him." I rolled my eyes, unable to hide my annoyance.
"At least I'm not a drunken loser like you, Dad," I retorted, unable to keep the bite out of my voice.
His anger flared, fueled by the whiskey coursing through his veins. He lunged at me, grabbing the book from my hands and tossing it aside. I tried to scramble away, but his grip was too strong.
"You're growing up so fast, Kaili," he whispered, his breath hot and sour against my cheek. "It's time you learned what it means to be a real woman."
His words sent chills down my spine. I didn't want to learn anything from a pathetic excuse like him. I tried to push him away, to fight back, but it was no use. He was too strong, too determined.
He backhanded me across the face, the force of the blow sending my head snapping to the side. But I didn't back down. I couldn't. I was stronger than this, than him.
He dragged me to the small, cluttered bedroom, throwing me onto the bed. I tried to scream, to plead with him to stop, but my voice was trapped in my throat. He undressed, standing before me naked and terrifying.
I trembled, tears streaming down my face as I realized there was no escape. He climbed onto the bed, forcing himself between my legs. I tried to push him away, to find a way out of this nightmare, but it was too late.
With a sickening finality, he violated me. My world shattered as I endured the unimaginable pain and betrayal. The first of many violations had begun.
But I wasn't broken. I was strong, controlling, and direct. I would survive this, and I would make him pay.
