Chapter 1: The First Glance
Sydney Bennett stepped into the sleek, glass-walled office of Prince Consulting, her heart thumping like a drum in her chest. At 21, with her petite frame, cascading blonde hair, and curves that could stop traffic, she felt like a lamb in a den of wolves. Her first day as an administrative assistant was supposed to be a fresh start, a chance to prove herself. But the air in the office was thick with power, ambition, and something darker she couldn’t quite name.
She smoothed her pencil skirt, her palms sweaty, and made her way to the reception desk. That’s when she saw him. Logan Prince, the CEO, stood at the far end of the open-plan office, his 6’5 frame towering over everyone else. His tailored suit hugged his muscular build, and his piercing gray eyes seemed to cut through the room. At 45, he was the kind of handsome that made your knees weak—rugged, commanding, with a jawline sharp enough to slice through any resistance. Sydney’s breath hitched as those eyes landed on her.
“Well, well, who do we have here?” Logan’s voice was a low growl, smooth as whiskey, as he strode toward her. The room seemed to shrink with every step he took. “You must be the new girl. Sydney, right?”
She nodded, her voice barely a whisper. “Yes, Mr. Prince. I’m excited to be here.”
His lips curled into a smirk, one that sent a shiver down her spine. “Excited, huh? We’ll see how long that lasts. This place chews up the innocent and spits them out. Think you can handle it, sweetheart?”
Sydney squared her shoulders, her naivety warring with a spark of defiance. “I’m not as fragile as I look, Mr. Prince. I can handle anything you throw at me.”
Logan’s eyes darkened, a predatory glint flashing in them. “Oh, I’m counting on it. Let’s just say I’ve got a knack for… testing limits.” He stepped closer, close enough that she could smell the faint musk of his cologne, intoxicating and dangerous. “Stick around, Sydney. I’ve got a feeling you’re going to be very… useful.”
Her cheeks flushed, but she didn’t back down. “Useful? I’m not just some tool for you to play with. I’m here to work, not to be your personal amusement.”
He chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that made her stomach flip. “Feisty. I like that. But let’s get one thing straight—I’m the boss. And when I want something, I get it. You’ll learn that soon enough.”
The tension between them crackled like a live wire. Sydney’s pulse raced as she held his gaze, refusing to be intimidated, even as her body betrayed her with a rush of heat. She didn’t know why, but there was something about him—something dark, magnetic, that pulled her in despite the warning bells in her head.
Logan leaned in, his voice dropping to a whisper meant only for her. “Meet me in my office after hours. I’ve got a special project for you. Don’t be late.”
Sydney’s breath caught, her mind spinning with a mix of fear and curiosity. “And if I say no?”
His grin was pure sin. “You won’t. Not when you realize what’s at stake… or how much you’ll want it.”
As he walked away, his broad shoulders rolling with confidence, Sydney felt a storm brewing inside her. She knew she should run, should keep her distance from a man like Logan Prince—a man married to Claire, a woman he claimed to love, yet whose eyes screamed of untamed hunger. But as the day wore on, her thoughts kept drifting to that office, to the promise of something forbidden.
By the time the clock struck 7 PM, the office was empty, save for the dim light spilling from Logan’s door. Sydney stood outside, her hand trembling as she knocked. The door swung open, and there he was, shirt sleeves rolled up, revealing forearms corded with muscle. His gaze raked over her, hungry and unapologetic.
“Glad you didn’t chicken out,” he purred, stepping aside to let her in. “Now, let’s see just how much you can handle.”
Her heart pounded as she stepped into the lion’s den, the door clicking shut behind her. Whatever was about to happen, Sydney knew one thing for certain—she wasn’t walking out of this office the same woman she’d been when she walked in.
