Debt of Desire

Debt of Desire

**Chapter 1: The Dangerous Deal**

Lila Voss wasn’t the kind of woman to back down from a challenge, and she sure as hell wasn’t about to let some greasy loan shark think he could intimidate her. Sitting across from Marco DeRose in his dimly lit office, the air thick with the scent of cigar smoke and cheap cologne, she smirked as she signed the contract. The terms were clear: default on the $50,000 loan, and she’d belong to him—body, soul, and freedom. She didn’t flinch. Lila had built her boutique from the ground up, and she’d be damned if she let a little debt scare her. Besides, she’d pay it back. She always did.

Marco leaned back in his leather chair, his dark eyes glinting with something predatory as he watched her pen scratch across the paper. 'You sure about this, sweetheart? I don’t play nice when I collect.' His voice was a low growl, dripping with menace and something else—something that made Lila’s skin prickle in a way she refused to acknowledge.

She tossed the pen down and met his gaze, her own eyes sharp as a blade. 'Call me sweetheart again, Marco, and I’ll shove that cigar up your ass. I’m not your plaything, and I’m not scared of you. I’ll have your money in three months, with interest. Bet on it.'

He chuckled, a deep, rumbling sound that sent an involuntary shiver down her spine. 'Oh, I’m betting on a lot more than that, Lila. You’ve got fire. I like that. Makes breaking you in all the sweeter.'

She stood, smoothing her tight black pencil skirt over her hips, fully aware of how his gaze lingered on her curves. 'Keep dreaming, DeRose. The only thing you’ll be breaking is your bank when I pay you off early.' She turned on her heel, her stilettos clicking against the hardwood floor as she sauntered out, leaving him with a view of her confident stride and a smirk she knew would haunt him.

That night, alone in her sleek, modern apartment, Lila poured herself a glass of red wine and replayed the encounter in her mind. She hated to admit it, but Marco’s raw, dangerous energy had sparked something in her—a heat she hadn’t felt in years. Her ex-husband had been safe, predictable, boring. Marco was a storm, and part of her, a reckless, hungry part, wanted to dance in the rain.

She set the glass down and paced to her bedroom, her mind racing. What if she couldn’t pay? What if she lost everything? The thought should’ve terrified her, but instead, it ignited a dark thrill. She imagined Marco storming in, demanding payment in ways that had nothing to do with money. Her breath hitched as she pictured his rough hands on her, his gravelly voice ordering her to—

No. She shook her head, snapping herself out of it. 'Get a grip, Lila,' she muttered to herself. 'You’re not some damsel in distress. You’re the fucking queen of this game.'

But as she slipped out of her skirt and into a silk robe, her phone buzzed with a text from an unknown number. *Thinking about you, Voss. Don’t make me wait too long.*

Her pulse quickened. Marco. She should’ve blocked him, told him to fuck off. Instead, she typed back, *Dream on, shark. I’m not your bait.*

His reply was instant. *We’ll see. I’m a patient man… until I’m not.*

Lila’s fingers hovered over the screen, a smirk tugging at her lips. She tossed the phone onto the bed and let the robe slip from her shoulders, standing naked in front of her full-length mirror. Her body was a weapon, and she knew how to wield it. If Marco thought he could own her, he was in for a rude awakening. But as she traced a hand down her own curves, imagining his piercing gaze, a heat pooled between her thighs. She was wet, damn it, and the thought of him made her ache in ways she couldn’t ignore.

Tomorrow, she’d face him again to negotiate an early payment plan. But tonight, her mind was already undressing him, picturing his hard, muscled frame pinning her against a wall, his cock pressing against her as she fought for control. She bit her lip, her breath coming faster. This game was dangerous, and she was playing with fire. But Lila Voss didn’t just play—she played to win.
