Debt of Desire: Lisa's Steamy Bargain

### Chapter One: The Deal is Sealed

The sprawling estate loomed like a gothic fantasy against the twilight sky, its iron gates creaking open with a groan that echoed in Lisa’s chest. She strode up the gravel path, her boots crunching with purpose, her fiery red hair whipping in the evening breeze. At twenty, she was a storm in human form—sharp-tongued, unapologetic, and currently broke as hell. Her family’s financial ruin had brought her here, to the den of Johnathan Carver, a man whose reputation for ruthless deals was only outdone by the whispers of his insatiable appetites.

Inside, the grand foyer was all marble and shadow, but Lisa didn’t have time to gawk. A stern-faced butler led her to John’s office, a dimly lit sanctuary of dark wood and leather. The air smelled of aged whiskey and power. And there he was, behind a massive desk, silver hair glinting like polished steel under the low light. John Carver, fifty and smug as sin, leaned back in his chair, a predator’s smirk playing on his lips as he sized her up.

“Well, well,” he drawled, his voice a velvet blade. “Lisa Monroe. I was expecting a trembling lamb, not a lioness. You look like you’ve come to devour me instead of beg.”

Lisa planted her hands on her hips, her green eyes flashing. “Keep dreaming, old man. I’m here to talk business, not to stroke your ego—or anything else, for that matter.”

John’s laughter was low, a rumble that sent an unexpected shiver down her spine. He stood, rounding the desk with the grace of a panther, his tailored suit hugging a frame that was far too fit for a man his age. “Oh, I like you already. Sharp tongue, sharper wit. But let’s not pretend you’re in a position to play hardball, darling. Your family’s drowning in debt, and I’m the only lifeboat in sight.”

She crossed her arms, refusing to flinch as he stopped just a foot away, his presence overwhelming. “And what’s the catch, Carver? I know men like you don’t hand out favors without strings attached. So, what’s the price for bailing us out? My soul? My dignity?”

His smirk widened, and he leaned in, his breath warm against her ear. “Nothing so pedestrian. I want an heir, Lisa. A child to carry on my name. And you, with that fire in your veins, are the perfect woman to give me one.”

Her jaw dropped, but only for a split second before she recovered with a scoff. “You’ve got to be kidding me. What is this, the dark ages? You think I’m just gonna pop out a kid for you because you’ve got a fat bank account?”

John stepped back, his eyes glinting with amusement as he poured two glasses of whiskey from a decanter on the desk. He offered her one, which she took with a suspicious glare. “Not just for the money, no. For your family. For their future. One child, and I wipe every penny of debt clean. You’ll never have to worry about them again. And let’s be honest,” he added, sipping his drink with a devilish grin, “the process could be… enjoyable.”

Lisa nearly choked on her whiskey, the burn in her throat mirroring the heat in her cheeks. “Oh, you’re a real charmer, aren’t you? What’s next, you gonna tell me I’ll be begging for more by the end of it?”

“Only if you’re lucky,” he shot back, his tone dripping with innuendo. “But I’m a gentleman, Lisa. I don’t force anything. You can walk out that door right now, and I’ll wish you well. Of course, your family’s debts won’t magically disappear, but that’s your call.”

She glared at him, her mind racing. Walk away, and her family would lose everything—her mother’s medical bills, her brother’s education, their home. Stay, and she’d be tangled in the most intimate deal of her life with a man who clearly relished control. But Lisa Monroe didn’t cower. If she was going to do this, it’d be on her terms.

“Fine,” she said at last, slamming her glass down on the desk. “But let’s get one thing straight, Carver. I’m not your little plaything. This is a transaction, not a romance novel. You don’t own me, and you sure as hell don’t get to call the shots outside of… whatever this arrangement entails.”

John raised an eyebrow, clearly intrigued by her defiance. “Is that so? And what are these precious rules of yours, lioness?”

She stepped closer, her voice low and dangerous, matching his earlier menace with her own brand of fire. “First, no strings beyond the deal. Once it’s done, we’re done. Second, you don’t get to parade me around like some trophy. This stays private. And third,” she added with a wicked smirk of her own, “if we’re doing this, you better keep up. I’m not some delicate flower who wilts under pressure.”

His eyes darkened, a flicker of raw desire breaking through his composed facade. “Oh, I think I can manage that. You’ve got yourself a deal, Lisa. But be warned—I play to win, even in the bedroom.”

She rolled her eyes, though her pulse quickened at the implication. “Save the bravado for someone who’s impressed. When do we start?”

John gestured to a contract on the desk, already prepared, the bastard. “Sign here, and we can start… tonight, if you’re feeling bold.”

Lisa hesitated, her fingers hovering over the pen. Then, with a defiant flourish, she signed her name, sealing her fate. She straightened, meeting his gaze head-on, and the air between them crackled with unspoken tension. His dark eyes bore into hers, a promise of heat and chaos, and for the first time, she felt the weight of what she’d agreed to—not just the deal, but the dangerous game of attraction she was already playing with him.

“Careful, Carver,” she warned, her voice a sultry challenge as she turned to leave. “I bite back.”

His chuckle followed her out the door, a sound that lingered in her mind long after she’d left the room. “I’m counting on it.”

As the heavy door clicked shut behind her, Lisa exhaled, her heart pounding. This was no ordinary deal. This was a battlefield, and she’d just declared war on a man who clearly thrived on conquest. But if John Carver thought he’d break her, he had another thing coming. She’d play his game—and she’d damn well win.
