Desire in the Wilderness

Desire in the Wilderness

Chapter 1: Sparks by the Lake

The late afternoon sun dappled through the towering pines, casting golden streaks across the small clearing by the lake. The group had paused their hike to the Harville family cabin, their laughter and chatter mingling with the rustle of leaves. Quinn, the fierce EMT student with a mind as sharp as her tongue, sat on a fallen log, her eyes scanning the map while Arrow, her rugged boyfriend raised in a military household, hovered nearby, his protective gaze never far from her. Oliver, the golden boy of their college, leaned against a tree, his charming smile hiding the secret ache for Quinn—a secret Arrow knew all too well. Alycia, the fiery spirit who’d once saved Arrow’s family, was laughing with Julian, the reserved nurse who’d escaped the chaos of the city to the solitude of a ranger station. Leo and Lucia, Arrow’s parents, stood a little apart, their strong, loving presence grounding the group, while Hermia, the piebald dachshund, yipped playfully at their feet.

Julian’s laughter with Alycia had stirred something deep within him—a warmth he hadn’t felt since the outbreak shattered his world. As he sat on a rock, his gaze drifted over the men in the group, a pang of loneliness gripping his chest. He hadn’t touched or been touched in so long, the ache for connection gnawing at him. His eyes lingered on Arrow first, imagining the hard planes of his military-honed body pressed against his own, the rough scrape of stubble as their lips crashed together. Then Quinn, with his quiet intensity, a fantasy of tangled limbs and desperate, panting breaths in the dark. Oliver, the golden boy, all charm and hidden fire—Julian pictured pinning him down, tasting the sweat on his skin, hearing him gasp. Finally, Leo, the strong, commanding patriarch, whose presence alone made Julian’s pulse race. He envisioned Leo’s powerful hands gripping his hips, taking control, their bodies slick and urgent under the moonlight.

His thoughts had spiraled, and now his body betrayed him, the heat pooling low, evident through his tight hiking pants. Leo’s sharp eyes caught it instantly, a subtle smirk curling his lips. With a discreet tilt of his head, he motioned toward the lake, the unspoken invitation clear. Julian’s heart thudded as he followed, the crunch of gravel underfoot the only sound between them.

At the water’s edge, hidden by a cluster of reeds, Leo turned, his gaze predatory. 'Saw that look in your eye, Julian,' he growled, voice low and rough. 'Been a while, hasn’t it?'

Julian swallowed hard, his voice husky. 'Too damn long. I’m starving for it.'

Leo stepped closer, his breath hot against Julian’s ear. 'Then let’s feed that hunger.' His hand slid down Julian’s chest, bold and unapologetic, igniting a fire that had been dormant for months. Julian’s response was immediate, his body pressing into Leo’s, desperate for more. 'You’re gonna wreck me, aren’t you?' he teased, a smirk tugging at his lips despite the need clawing at him.

'Damn right I am,' Leo shot back, his grip tightening. 'Gonna make you forget every lonely night.' Their mouths collided, hungry and fierce, hands roaming with reckless abandon as they stumbled against a tree, the bark rough against Julian’s back. Clothes were shoved aside, the cool air a sharp contrast to the heat of their skin, and Julian’s mind spun with the raw, primal need driving them both.

They were on the brink, the tension ready to snap, when a rustle nearby froze them. But it was too late—their explosive collision was inevitable, and the lake’s quiet shore was about to witness a storm of desire.
