Esmeralda hummed to herself as she sautéed sliced onions and bell peppers in Mukuro's family kitchen. The smell of simmering carnitas filled the air, and she couldn't help but smile, knowing she was creating something delicious and meaningful for the people she loved.
In the other room, she could hear Mukuro's family chatting. She caught snippets of their conversation, and her smile faded as she realized they were making disparaging comments about her culture, her food, and even her name.
*Esmeralda.* The way they said it, it was as if it left a bad taste in their mouths. She felt a pang in her heart, but she didn't let it show. Instead, she continued to cook, her movements becoming more tense and angry.
Mukuro entered the kitchen, sensing that something was wrong. He found Esmeralda with tears in her eyes, her quesadilla burning in the pan.
"What's wrong?" he asked, concern etched on his face.
"I heard what your family was saying about me," she said, her voice direct and to the point. "About my culture, my food, my name. And you didn't say anything. You just sat there and let them talk."
Mukuro was shocked. He had no idea his family had said such things. He felt hurt and defensive, but he knew Esmeralda was right. He should have stood up for her.
"I'm sorry," he said, taking her hand. "I should have said something. I'll talk to them."
Esmeralda playfully insulted him, calling him a coward for not sticking up for her earlier. Mukuro hesitated, but then made the decision to stand up to his family. He went downstairs and started cussing them out, defending Esmeralda and her culture.
Esmeralda watched from the kitchen, a small smile on her face. She was proud of Mukuro for standing up for her, but she was also angry at his family for their ignorance and prejudice.
When Mukuro returned, his face was flushed with anger. Esmeralda took his hand and led him to the table, where they sat down to eat the quesadilla, now burnt to a crisp.
Esmeralda made a toast to Mukuro, to their love, and to standing up for what is right. Mukuro raised his glass, a proud smile on his face.
As they ate, Esmeralda and Mukuro discussed the importance of standing up for oneself and for others. They made a pact to always defend each other, no matter what.
Esmeralda cleared up the kitchen, a sense of satisfaction and pride in her heart. She knew that she was a strong, controlling, and direct woman, and that she deserved to be treated with respect.
Mukuro watched Esmeralda, a newfound appreciation and love in his heart. He knew that he had found a true partner, a woman who would stand by his side no matter what.
As they went to bed, Esmeralda and Mukuro knew that their love would only grow stronger. They were excited for the future, and for the adventures that awaited them. And they knew that, as long as they had each other, they could face any challenge.
