The campfire at Camp Artemis was alive with the laughter and singing of a dozen young campers. At the helm of it all was Ellie, a 14-year-old counselor with golden hair as radiant as the flames themselves and eyes as blue as the summer sky. She led the campers in a raucous rendition of "Boom Chicka Boom," her voice soaring above the rest.
"Ellie, Ellie, Boom Chicka,
Ellie, Ellie, Boom Chicka,
Ellie, Ellie, Boom Chicka, BOOM!"
As the song reached its crescendo, Ellie couldn't help but notice the youngest camper, Bee, her small face contorted in fear. The poor thing was terrified of the dark, and the flickering firelight did little to quell her apprehensions.
Ellie flashed Bee a reassuring smile and beckoned her over. "Hey, Bee, how about you come sit on my lap? I'll keep you safe and sound."
Bee hesitated for a moment before scurrying over, her tiny frame settling onto Ellie's lap. The fear in her eyes slowly dissipated, replaced by a timid smile.
As Ellie resumed the song, she felt a sudden warmth spread through her chest, a sensation both comforting and invigorating. She glanced up and gasped. There, suspended above her head, was a symbol of flames, shimmering and dancing in the night air.
The campers' singing ceased as they too noticed the ethereal sight. "Hestia!" they whispered in awe. The goddess of home, hearth, and family was known to appear as a simple flame, a testament to her humble yet powerful nature.
A booming voice echoed through the clearing, "Hestia, goddess of home, the sacrificial flame, heath, fire, family all hail Ellie, daughter of Hestia."
Ellie's cheeks burned with a blush that rivaled the campfire. Daughter of Hestia? She struggled to process the sudden revelation of her divine parentage. The campers around her erupted in excited chatter, discussing the rarity of Hestia claiming a child.
Bee, still perched on Ellie's lap, teased, "Well, looks like you're a goddess now. Guess I should be scared of you!"
Ellie playfully retorted, "Only when you misbehave, Bee. I'm still the same Ellie you like."
A fellow counselor, Ava, approached, her dark eyes filled with curiosity. A devout follower of Athena, Ava was both awed and skeptical of the situation. "What's going on here?" she asked, her voice barely above a whisper.
Ellie explained the turn of events, and Ava offered her congratulations, her tone a curious mix of awe and skepticism. "So, does this mean you'll be... different?"
Ellie shrugged, "I don't know, Ava. But I'm still me. I'll just have to figure out what it means to be Hestia's daughter."
The campfire crackled as the campers returned to their songs and stories, but Ellie couldn't help but feel a new sense of purpose and responsibility. As the night wore on, she wondered what her future held as a child of Hestia, the goddess of home and family.
