Forbidden Descent

**Chapter 1: The Spark in the Shadows**

The old family cabin creaked under the weight of a late summer storm, rain lashing against the windows as Lila and Ethan sat across from each other at the worn oak table. The air was thick with unspoken tension, a cocktail of nostalgia and something darker, something neither dared to name. They were supposed to be here for a weekend of clearing out their late parents’ belongings, but the isolation of the woods had a way of peeling back layers of propriety.

Lila, with her sharp green eyes and a smirk that could cut glass, leaned back in her chair, twirling a strand of dark hair around her finger. 'So, little brother, are we gonna keep pretending we’re just sorting through dusty photo albums, or are we gonna talk about why you’ve been staring at me like I’m the last piece of pie on Thanksgiving?'

Ethan, broad-shouldered and with a jawline that could’ve been carved from marble, chuckled low, his voice a rumble that matched the thunder outside. 'Maybe I’m just wondering how you’ve managed to look hotter every damn year, sis. Not my fault you’re strutting around in that tank top like you own the place.'

She arched a brow, her laugh sharp and biting. 'Oh, please. Don’t act like you’re not enjoying the view. I caught you sneaking a peek when I bent over to grab that box earlier. Eyes up here, perv.'

He grinned, unapologetic, leaning forward with a glint in his hazel eyes. 'Can you blame me? You’ve got an ass that could start a war. I’m just a man, Lila.'

Her lips twitched, a dangerous edge to her smile as she stood, sauntering over to his side of the table. She leaned down, her breath hot against his ear, her voice a velvet blade. 'Careful, Ethan. Keep talking like that, and I might just call your bluff. You think you can handle a woman like me? I’m not some shy little thing who’ll blush and run.'

His hand twitched on the table, fingers curling as if resisting the urge to reach for her. 'Try me, sis. I’ve been holding back for years. You’ve got no idea how hard it’s been to keep my hands to myself.'

Lila straightened, her gaze locking with his, a challenge sparking between them. She stepped closer, her thigh brushing against his arm, the heat of her body a silent dare. 'Hard, huh? That’s a bold word. You sure you’re not just all talk?'

Ethan’s breath hitched, his eyes darkening as he stood, towering over her but meeting her fire with his own. 'Keep pushing, Lila, and you’ll find out just how serious I am. I’m not the kid brother you used to boss around anymore.'

The storm outside roared, but the storm inside was louder, crackling with a forbidden energy that neither could ignore. Lila’s hand grazed his chest, her nails dragging lightly over his shirt as she tilted her head, lips inches from his. 'Then show me, Ethan. Stop playing nice and give me a reason to stop pretending I don’t want this just as bad.'

His control snapped like a taut wire, his hands gripping her hips with a hunger that had been caged for too long. He pulled her against him, their bodies colliding with a force that stole the air from the room. Her gasp was swallowed by the heat of his mouth as he kissed her, raw and desperate, the taste of forbidden fruit sweeter than sin. They stumbled back against the wall, her fingers clawing at his shirt, his growl vibrating against her lips as the world outside faded to nothing but the pounding of their hearts and the storm of their desire.
