Forbidden Flames

Forbidden Flames

**Chapter 1: The Spark Ignites**

Anja stood in the dimly lit living room of her suburban home, her sharp green eyes glinting with a dangerous mix of defiance and desire. Her husband, Tom, was slouched on the couch, oblivious to the storm brewing in her heart. The doorbell rang, a sound that sliced through the mundane silence like a blade. Anja’s lips curled into a sly smirk as she smoothed her tight black dress, the fabric clinging to her curves like a second skin. She knew who was on the other side of that door.

“Tom, get the door,” she said, her voice dripping with command, not request. He grunted, barely looking up from his phone, but complied. As the door swung open, there stood Mike, Tom’s oldest friend, all six feet of rugged charm and unapologetic swagger. His dark eyes locked onto Anja immediately, a predator sizing up his prey—but she was no damsel. She met his gaze with equal fire, her chin tilted in challenge.

“Evening, Tom,” Mike drawled, his voice a low rumble. “I’m here for Anja. She won’t be needing her things tonight, so why don’t you start packing them up? She’s got other plans.”

Tom blinked, confusion etching across his face. “What the hell are you talking about, Mike?”

Anja stepped forward, her heels clicking on the hardwood floor with purpose. “What he means, darling, is that I’m done playing the dutiful wife. I’m stepping out. With him.” She gestured to Mike, her tone laced with venomous sweetness. “Don’t wait up.”

Tom’s jaw dropped, but before he could sputter a response, Mike chuckled, a dark, knowing sound. “You heard the lady. Let’s not make this messy, Tom. She’s made her choice.”

Anja didn’t wait for Tom’s reaction. She brushed past him, her shoulder grazing Mike’s chest as she stepped outside, the cool night air kissing her skin. Mike followed, his presence a magnetic pull she couldn’t resist even if she wanted to. They didn’t speak until they reached his sleek black car parked at the curb.

“You’re a real piece of work, you know that?” Mike said, opening the passenger door for her, his eyes raking over her body with unabashed hunger. “Telling him straight like that. Got a spine of steel.”

Anja slid into the seat, crossing her legs with deliberate slowness, letting her dress ride up just enough to tease. “And you’re a bastard for enjoying it so much,” she shot back, her voice husky with challenge. “But I’m not here for your approval, Mike. I’m here for something else.”

He leaned down, his face inches from hers, the scent of his cologne mixing with raw masculinity. “Oh, I know exactly what you’re here for, Anja. And I’m gonna give it to you. Hard.”

Her breath hitched, but she didn’t flinch. Instead, she reached up, her fingers tracing the stubble on his jaw. “Promises, promises. You’d better not be all talk.”

Mike grinned, a wicked flash of teeth, before shutting the door and rounding to the driver’s side. The engine roared to life, and they sped off toward the city, the tension between them crackling like a live wire. Dinner was the plan—a fancy restaurant downtown—but Anja knew it was just a prelude. The real feast would come later.

At the restaurant, they sat across from each other, the candlelight casting shadows over their faces. Every word was a dance, every glance a dare. “You look like you’re starving,” Mike said, sipping his wine, his eyes never leaving hers. “But not for the food.”

Anja leaned forward, her cleavage a deliberate distraction. “And you look like you’re dying to find out just how hungry I am,” she purred, her foot sliding up his leg under the table. “Care to test that theory?”

His jaw tightened, and she felt the heat of his gaze like a physical touch. “Keep playing, Anja. You’re gonna get exactly what you’re asking for.”

By the time they left the restaurant, the air between them was thick with unspoken promises. Mike’s hand rested possessively on her lower back as he guided her to the car, but they didn’t make it far. In the shadowed alley beside the parking lot, he pushed her against the brick wall, his body pressing into hers. “You’ve been teasing me all night,” he growled, his breath hot against her neck. “Time to pay up.”

Anja laughed, a low, throaty sound, her hands gripping his shirt. “Teasing? Sweetheart, I’m just getting started.” Her lips crashed into his, fierce and demanding, as the world around them faded into a haze of raw, unbridled need. Their bodies were already moving, hands roaming, breaths coming faster, the promise of something explosive just moments away.
