Forbidden Glances

Forbidden Glances

**Chapter 1: The Spark in the Steam**

Iris adjusted the straps of her gym bag, her toned legs flexing under the tight leggings as she strode into the fitness studio. At 38, she knew she turned heads, but today, her mind was elsewhere. Her marriage to Markus had grown stale, a monotonous dance of routine. Even the black lace straps she’d surprised him with last week barely elicited a grunt. But something had shifted in her. Lately, her private moments—those stolen seconds of self-pleasure—kept drifting to the humid, charged air of the women’s locker room. Not the women themselves, no, she wasn’t into that. It was the raw, unspoken tension. The way eyes lingered just a second too long.

She pushed open the locker room door, the scent of sweat and floral body wash hitting her like a wave. As she stripped off her damp tank top, her gaze caught on Viola, the striking blonde in the corner. Viola, recently separated, had a wild, untamed energy about her, mirrored by the untamed patch of hair Iris couldn’t help but notice as the woman tugged on her shorts. Their eyes met for a fleeting moment, and Iris felt a jolt—something dangerous and unfamiliar.

“Caught you staring,” Viola said, her voice low and teasing, a smirk playing on her lips as she sauntered over, towel slung over her shoulder. “What’s got you so distracted, Iris? Not getting enough at home?”

Iris scoffed, brushing her brown hair back, her cheeks flushing despite herself. “Please. I’m just wondering how you manage to look so smug after a workout. What’s your secret? A magic potion?”

Viola laughed, sharp and bright, stepping closer. The air between them crackled. “No potion. Just freedom. Divorce does wonders for the soul. You should try shaking things up sometime. Bet you’d look killer doing it.” Her eyes flicked down, bold and unapologetic, taking in Iris’s curves, the hint of dark hair peeking from her shorts. “Bet you’ve got a wild side hiding under all that proper wife nonsense.”

Iris rolled her eyes, but her pulse quickened. “I’m not some bored housewife looking for a thrill, Viola. And I’m definitely not into… whatever you’re implying.”

“Am I implying something?” Viola tilted her head, her grin wicked. “I’m just saying, you’ve got a body that deserves to be worshipped, not ignored. And those straps you wore the other day? Damn. If Markus isn’t on his knees for you, he’s a fool.”

Iris’s breath hitched. She turned to her locker, fumbling with her towel, trying to ignore the heat pooling low in her belly. She wasn’t into women. She wasn’t. But Viola’s words, her brazen confidence, stirred something primal. “You talk a big game for someone who’s all alone now,” Iris shot back, her voice steady despite the tremor in her hands. “Maybe you’re the one looking for a thrill.”

Viola stepped even closer, her bare shoulder brushing Iris’s as she leaned in to whisper, “Maybe I am. But I don’t play games I can’t win. And you? You’re already sweating, and I haven’t even touched you.”

Iris froze, her body betraying her with a rush of warmth. She could feel Viola’s breath on her neck, the proximity making her skin prickle. Her mind screamed to step away, but her feet stayed rooted. The locker room was empty now, the distant hum of treadmills the only sound. Viola’s hand hovered near her hip, not touching, just close enough to make Iris’s heart pound.

“Tell me to stop,” Viola murmured, her voice a challenge, her eyes locked on Iris’s. “Or don’t. Your call, gorgeous.”

Iris’s lips parted, a retort dying on her tongue as her body ached with a need she didn’t understand. She wasn’t ready to cross that line—not yet—but the tension was a live wire, sparking with every breath. Whatever this was, it was far from over.
