Forbidden Heat

Forbidden Heat

**Chapter 1: The Party Ignites**

The bass thrummed through the crowded loft, a pulsing heartbeat that matched the electric tension in the air. Elise Harper stood near the bar, a glass of crisp white wine in her hand, her sharp green eyes scanning the room. At thirty-two, she was a force—confident, successful, and fiercely independent. Her tailored black dress hugged her curves, the slit up her thigh daring anyone to look twice. She wasn’t here to play nice; she was here to network, to dominate the room with her presence. But something—or someone—kept pulling her gaze to the corner.

There he was. Marcus Kane. Six-foot-four of pure, unadulterated power, his dark skin gleaming under the dim lights, a smirk playing on his lips as he caught her staring. He leaned against the wall, a beer in hand, his white shirt unbuttoned just enough to reveal a glimpse of hard, sculpted chest. Elise’s breath hitched, but she masked it with a sip of her wine. She wasn’t some blushing girl; she was a woman who knew what she wanted—and what she didn’t.

“You’ve been eye-fucking me for the last ten minutes, Mrs. Harper,” Marcus drawled, his deep voice cutting through the noise as he approached. His gaze was predatory, but there was a playful edge to it, like he knew he was already winning.

Elise arched a brow, her lips curling into a smirk. “And you’ve been begging for it, Kane. Don’t flatter yourself—I’m just curious how someone so cocky doesn’t trip over his own ego.”

He laughed, a low, rumbling sound that sent a shiver down her spine. “Oh, I’ve got plenty to back it up, sweetheart. Care to test that theory?”

She rolled her eyes, but the heat in her cheeks betrayed her. “I’m married, in case you missed the ring. And I don’t play games with boys who think they can handle a woman like me.”

Marcus stepped closer, the scent of his cologne—woodsy, intoxicating—wrapping around her. “I don’t see a husband here. And I’m no boy, Elise. I’m all man, and I can see that fire in your eyes. You’re dying to burn.”

Her pulse quickened, but she held her ground, her voice sharp as a blade. “You’ve got a mouth on you, don’t you? Too bad I’m not interested in cheap thrills.”

“Cheap?” He grinned, his teeth flashing. “Baby, I’m a fucking luxury. One taste, and you’ll be begging for more.”

Elise’s grip tightened on her glass, her mind screaming to walk away, but her body—damn it—her body was traitorously curious. She could feel the heat radiating off him, the promise of something raw and untamed. “You’re delusional,” she snapped, but her voice wavered just enough to give her away.

Marcus leaned in, his lips brushing her ear as he whispered, “Then why are you still standing here, darlin’? Let’s find a quiet corner and see how long you can keep up that ice-queen act.”

Her breath caught, a flush creeping down her neck. She should’ve slapped him, walked away, anything—but instead, she found herself following him, her heels clicking against the hardwood as they slipped into a shadowed hallway. The music faded, replaced by the sound of her own racing heartbeat.

He backed her against the wall, his hands caging her in, but not touching—not yet. “Tell me to stop,” he murmured, his eyes locked on hers, daring her to resist.

Elise’s chest heaved, her mind a storm of no and yes. “I don’t want this,” she hissed, but her body arched toward him, betraying every word.

“Liar,” he growled, and then his lips crashed into hers, hard and demanding. She fought it for half a second before kissing him back, her hands fisting in his shirt, pulling him closer. His tongue invaded her mouth, tasting of beer and sin, and she hated how much she craved it. His hands slid down her hips, gripping her ass through the thin fabric of her dress, and she gasped into his mouth.

“You’re so fucking wet already, aren’t you?” he rasped, his voice thick with lust as he pressed his hard cock against her thigh. “I can feel it through this damn dress.”

“Shut up,” she snapped, but her voice was breathless, her body trembling as his fingers teased the edge of her slit, daring to go higher. She was dripping, aching, and she hated him for knowing it. The hallway spun, the world narrowing to the heat of his touch, the promise of what was coming next—and she knew, deep down, she was about to let him fuck her senseless right here, against this wall, with a party raging just feet away.
