Forbidden Heat

Forbidden Heat

Chapter 1: Sparks in the Shadows

The summer heat clung to the air like a lover’s breath, thick and unrelenting, as I lounged on the worn-out couch in our family’s cramped living room. At fourteen, I was all restless energy and unspoken curiosity, my eyes often wandering to my sister, Lila, who at seventeen was a storm of confidence and sharp edges. She strutted into the room, her tank top clinging to her curves, denim shorts barely covering the essentials, and a smirk that could cut glass.

'Stop staring, kid,' she snapped, her voice dripping with playful venom as she tossed her dark hair over her shoulder. 'Or are you just jealous of what you can’t have?'

I rolled my eyes, but my cheeks burned. 'Jealous? Please. I’m just wondering how you manage to look like a walking disaster and still think you’re hot shit.'

Lila laughed, a low, throaty sound that sent a shiver down my spine despite the heat. She plopped down next to me, her thigh brushing mine, the contact electric even through the haze of sibling rivalry. 'Oh, sweetheart, I don’t think—I know. And you? You’re just a little pup trying to figure out how to bark.'

I scoffed, leaning closer, my voice dropping to a mock whisper. 'Maybe I’m just waiting for the right moment to bite.'

Her eyes flashed, a dangerous glint of amusement and something darker, something that made my pulse race. 'Careful, little brother. Play with fire, and you might get burned.' She leaned in, her breath hot against my ear, her words a challenge wrapped in silk. 'Or do you think you can handle the heat?'

The air between us crackled, thick with unspoken tension. My heart pounded as I caught the scent of her—sweat and something sweet, intoxicating. She wasn’t just my sister in that moment; she was a force, a magnet pulling me into uncharted territory. I shifted, suddenly aware of how close we were, how her gaze lingered on my lips like she was daring me to cross a line.

'Maybe I’m hotter than you think,' I shot back, my voice rougher than I intended, the bravado barely masking the way my body was reacting, stirring with a hunger I didn’t fully understand yet.

Lila’s smirk widened, her hand brushing my arm, deliberate and teasing. 'Oh, I bet you are. But are you brave enough to prove it?' Her fingers lingered, her touch igniting something raw and reckless in me, and I knew we were teetering on the edge of something forbidden, something that could consume us both.

The room seemed to shrink, the heat pressing in as our banter turned to a silent dare. My breath hitched, and I could see the same fire mirrored in her eyes. Whatever came next, I knew it would be explosive—and I wasn’t sure I wanted to stop it.
