Forbidden Heat

Forbidden Heat

**Chapter 1: The Neighbor's Burden**

The summer heat clung to Jake’s skin as he lounged on his porch, a cold beer sweating in his hand. At 35, he was a man of sharp edges—rugged jawline, piercing hazel eyes, and a smirk that could unravel secrets. He’d lived alone in this quiet suburban street for years, content with his solitary life, until the moving truck rolled in next door. That’s when he saw her—Lila, the single mom with a fire in her stride, hauling boxes with a teenage daughter in tow and a small boy clinging to her leg.

Lila was a force, all sharp wit and no-nonsense attitude, her dark hair pulled back in a messy bun, curves barely hidden under a tank top. She caught Jake’s stare and tossed him a look that could cut glass. 'Eyes up here, neighbor,' she snapped, her voice dripping with challenge. 'I’m not your afternoon entertainment.'

Jake chuckled, raising his beer in mock surrender. 'Just admiring the view, sweetheart. Need a hand with those boxes, or you got this all under control like everything else?'

She smirked, wiping sweat from her brow. 'I’ve been carrying heavier loads than these since before you were born, pretty boy. But if you’re offering, my son could use a babysitter. I’ve got a daughter to wrangle and a job to start tomorrow.'

Jake’s gaze flicked to the boy, maybe seven, with wide, curious eyes and a mop of brown hair. 'What’s your name, kid?' he asked, crouching down.

'Tommy,' the boy mumbled, clutching a toy car.

'Well, Tommy, I’ve got a backyard with a treehouse. Wanna check it out while your mom plays boss?' Jake shot Lila a grin, daring her to object.

Lila crossed her arms, sizing him up. 'You’re not some creep, are you? I don’t have time for games, Jake. I’ve got enough on my plate without worrying about my kid.'

'Relax, tiger,' Jake drawled, standing to meet her gaze. 'I’m harmless… unless you want me to be otherwise.' His voice dipped low, suggestive, and he watched her cheeks flush just a shade darker.

'Keep dreaming,' she shot back, but there was a flicker of something in her eyes—curiosity, maybe. 'Fine. Tommy, behave for Jake. I’ll be back in a few hours.' She turned on her heel, her ass swaying with every step, leaving Jake with a dangerous thought brewing.

Hours passed, and Tommy was a quiet kid, easy to entertain with stories and a soda. But Jake’s mind wasn’t on the boy—not entirely. There was something about Lila’s sharpness, her unapologetic strength, that got under his skin. When she finally returned, the sun was dipping low, casting golden hues over her skin. She was panting slightly from the day’s grind, her tank top clinging to her in all the right places.

'Thanks for watching him,' she said, her tone softer now, almost vulnerable. 'I don’t usually trust strangers, but… you’re not half bad.'

Jake leaned against the porch railing, his smirk back in full force. 'Not half bad? Darlin’, I’m a whole lotta good if you give me the chance.'

Lila rolled her eyes, but stepped closer, her scent—sweat and something sweet—hitting him like a punch. 'You talk a big game, Jake. Got anything to back it up, or are you all bark?'

His blood heated at the challenge, his cock stirring at the thought of peeling that tank top off her. 'Step inside and find out,' he murmured, voice rough with want. 'I’ve got a few tricks that’ll make you forget every damn stress you’ve got.'

Her lips parted, a wicked glint in her eyes as she considered him. 'You’re trouble,' she whispered, but her body leaned in, close enough to feel the heat radiating off her. 'And I’m not afraid of a little trouble.'

They were inches apart now, the air thick with tension, her breath hot against his skin. Jake’s hand hovered near her hip, itching to grab her, to feel her wet and ready under his touch. He knew this was just the beginning—whatever was about to happen would be explosive, raw, and utterly forbidden.
