Forbidden Heat

Forbidden Heat

**Chapter 1: Sparks in the Shadows**

Maddie leaned against the bar, her sharp eyes scanning the dimly lit room. The air was thick with the scent of whiskey and desire, a heady mix that made her pulse quicken. She wasn’t here for games, though. As a private investigator, she had a job to do—tracking down Kyle, a man with a reputation for trouble and a smirk that could melt steel. She adjusted her leather jacket, her confident posture daring anyone to challenge her.

'Looking for someone, sweetheart?' a deep voice purred behind her. She turned, meeting Kyle’s piercing gaze. He was all rugged charm, with a jawline sharp enough to cut glass and a grin that screamed danger. But Maddie wasn’t one to back down.

'I’m not your sweetheart, and I’m not here to play,' she shot back, her tone icy. 'I’ve got questions, and you’ve got answers. Care to share, or do I need to drag them out of you?'

Kyle chuckled, stepping closer, his presence overwhelming. 'Oh, I like a woman with fire. But let’s get one thing straight—I don’t answer to anyone. Especially not a pretty little thing like you.'

Maddie’s eyes narrowed, her hand twitching toward the dagger hidden at her hip. 'Call me ‘pretty little thing’ one more time, and you’ll be picking your teeth off the floor. Now, talk. What do you know about the missing shipments?'

He leaned in, his breath hot against her ear, sending an involuntary shiver down her spine. 'I know a lot of things, Maddie. Like how your tough act is just a front. I bet underneath all that bravado, you’re aching for someone to take control.'

Her laugh was sharp, cutting through the tension. 'You wish. I don’t bend for anyone, least of all a cocky bastard like you. But keep talking—I’m all ears.'

Kyle’s smirk widened as he gestured toward a secluded booth in the corner. 'Then let’s take this somewhere private. Unless you’re scared to be alone with me.'

'Scared? Of you?' Maddie scoffed, brushing past him, her hips swaying with deliberate confidence. 'I eat men like you for breakfast. Lead the way.'

They slid into the booth, the shadows cloaking them in intimacy. The air crackled with unspoken tension, their banter a dangerous dance. Kyle’s eyes roamed over her, hungry and unapologetic. 'You’ve got a mouth on you, Maddie. Ever think about putting it to better use?'

She leaned forward, her voice a seductive growl. 'Only if you’ve got something worth my time. But from where I’m sitting, all I see is a lot of talk and no action.'

His hand slid under the table, brushing against her thigh, testing her boundaries. Maddie didn’t flinch, her gaze locked on his, daring him to push further. 'Careful, Kyle. I bite back.'

'Good,' he murmured, his voice low and rough. 'I like a challenge.'

Their words hung heavy, charged with raw heat. Maddie felt the pull, the undeniable attraction, but she wasn’t about to let him think he had the upper hand. She stood, grabbing his collar and pulling him toward the back exit. 'Let’s see if you can keep up, tough guy. I’m not here to waste my night.'

They stumbled into the alley, the cool night air a stark contrast to the fire building between them. Kyle pressed her against the brick wall, his body hard against hers, but Maddie pushed back, her hands gripping his shoulders. 'You don’t get to call the shots,' she hissed, her breath hot and heavy. 'This goes my way, or not at all.'

Their lips crashed together, a battle of wills, each fighting for dominance. Her fingers dug into his skin, and his hands roamed her curves, both of them panting, sweating with the intensity of their hunger. She could feel him, hard and insistent against her, and damn if it didn’t make her wet with anticipation. The alley was no place for restraint, and as their clothes started to slip, the promise of something explosive lingered in the air—dripping with need, ready to ignite.
