Chapter 1: Lunch with a Side of Temptation
Katie adjusted her short skirt as she stepped into the bustling café, her green eyes scanning the crowd for Steve. Her athletic frame moved with a confident stride, brown hair cascading over her shoulders. She knew this lunch was a dangerous game—her sister’s husband, for God’s sake—but the thrill of it set her pulse racing. She spotted him at a corner table, tall and athletic, his brown eyes locking onto hers with an intensity that made her smirk. Steve was trouble, and she was ready to dive in headfirst.
'Well, well, if it isn’t my favorite brother-in-law,' Katie purred, sliding into the seat across from him, crossing her legs so the skirt rode up just enough to catch his gaze. 'You look like you’ve been waiting for me all day.'
Steve leaned back, a slow grin spreading across his face as he took in her deliberate tease. 'And you look like you’re here to start a war, Katie. That skirt’s a damn weapon.'
She laughed, sharp and unapologetic, leaning forward so her B-cup curves pressed subtly against the table. 'Oh, honey, I don’t start wars. I win them. Question is, are you ready to lose?'
His eyes darkened, a flicker of hunger flashing through them. 'Careful, Katie. Keep talking like that, and I might forget we’re in public.'
'Public’s half the fun,' she shot back, her voice low and dripping with challenge. She sipped her water, letting her lips linger on the glass just a second too long. 'Unless you’re scared of a little risk.'
Steve’s jaw tightened, and he leaned in, his voice a rough whisper. 'Scared? Nah. I’m just wondering how long it’ll take before you’re begging me to drag you out of here.'
Katie’s smirk widened, her green eyes glinting with mischief. 'Begging? Sweetheart, I don’t beg. I take what I want. And right now, I’m looking at something I’ve wanted for a long damn time.'
The air between them crackled, charged with a heat that had nothing to do with the café’s shitty air conditioning. Their banter was a dance, each word a step closer to the edge. Katie felt the tension coil low in her belly, her skin prickling with anticipation. Steve’s hand brushed hers on the table, a deliberate graze that sent a jolt straight through her.
'You’re playing with fire, Katie,' he warned, his voice a growl now, his brown eyes burning into hers.
'Good,' she replied, her tone pure defiance. 'I like it hot.'
They barely touched their food, the untouched plates a silent testament to the real hunger building between them. Katie shifted in her seat, feeling the heat pooling between her thighs, her mind already racing ahead to what she knew was inevitable. Steve’s gaze dropped to her lips, and she knew he was thinking the same thing—how long until they could get the hell out of here and tear into each other.
'Finish your drink,' she ordered, her voice firm, a commander on the battlefield of lust. 'We’ve got better places to be.'
Steve didn’t argue, downing his coffee in one gulp, his eyes never leaving hers. They stood in unison, the unspoken agreement hanging heavy between them. As they stepped out of the café, the world narrowed to just the two of them, the promise of what was coming next making her heart pound. She could already imagine the feel of his hard body against hers, the way she’d take control and make him lose his damn mind. The alley behind the café loomed ahead, a shadowed escape from prying eyes, and Katie knew they weren’t going to make it much farther before the tension snapped.
