Chapter 1: The Spark at the Table
The dimly lit restaurant buzzed with the hum of intimate conversations, the clink of wine glasses, and the faint aroma of garlic and rosemary wafting from the kitchen. At a secluded corner table, Daniel, a ruggedly handsome man in his late forties with salt-and-pepper hair and a jawline that could cut glass, sat across from his son, Riley. Riley, a striking trans man with a chiseled frame, sharp green eyes, and a confident smirk, leaned back in his chair, swirling a glass of red wine. The air between them was supposed to be casual, a playful experiment—Riley had offered to be his dad’s 'practice date' to help Daniel shake off the rust of years spent single after the divorce. But as the night wore on, something dangerous simmered beneath the surface.
'You gotta sell it, Dad,' Riley teased, his voice low and edged with a challenge. 'Pretend I’m some hot stranger you’re trying to impress. Lay it on thick. Don’t hold back.'
Daniel chuckled, a nervous edge to it, but his dark eyes locked onto Riley’s with an intensity that made the younger man’s breath hitch. 'Alright, fine. You look... damn good tonight, Riley. That shirt fits you like it was made to show off every hard line of you. I can’t stop staring.'
Riley’s smirk widened, but a flush crept up his neck. He leaned forward, elbows on the table, his gaze piercing. 'Oh, yeah? Keep going. Tell me what else you like. Don’t be shy now.'
Daniel’s voice dropped, rough and deliberate. 'I like the way you carry yourself. Confident. Cocky, even. Makes me wonder what else you’ve got up your sleeve... or under that shirt.'
The words hung heavy, charged with a heat neither of them expected. Riley’s lips parted slightly, and he let out a low, appreciative laugh. 'Careful, old man. You’re getting too good at this. I might start believing you mean it.'
Their banter danced on a razor’s edge, each quip laced with a growing hunger. When Riley reached for the bread basket, his fingers brushed Daniel’s, lingering just a second too long. The contact sent a jolt through both of them, a silent acknowledgment of the line they were toeing. Daniel’s hand didn’t pull away; instead, his thumb grazed Riley’s knuckles, slow and deliberate.
'You’re trouble, you know that?' Daniel muttered, his voice a growl, eyes darkening with something primal. 'I’m supposed to be practicing, not... feeling this.'
Riley’s grin was pure mischief as he leaned closer, his breath warm against Daniel’s ear. 'Feeling what, Dad? Go on, say it. I dare you.'
Daniel’s jaw tightened, his restraint fraying. 'Feeling like I want to drag you out of this chair and find out how far this game can go.'
The air crackled, electric and heavy with unspoken desire. Riley’s hand slid under the table, resting on Daniel’s thigh, fingers pressing just hard enough to make the older man’s breath catch. 'Then why don’t you? I’m not stopping you.'
Daniel’s eyes flicked to Riley’s lips, then back to his gaze, a storm brewing in his expression. 'Finish your wine. We’re getting out of here. I’ve got a bottle of whisky at home that’s begging for company.'
They barely made it through the door of Daniel’s apartment before the tension snapped. The whisky was poured, but it sat untouched on the counter as they stood too close, the heat of their bodies radiating. Riley’s hand found Daniel’s chest, fingers curling into the fabric of his shirt. 'You gonna keep pretending, or are you gonna do something about it?'
Daniel’s control shattered. He grabbed Riley by the hips, pulling him flush against his body, and crashed their lips together in a bruising, desperate kiss. The taste of wine lingered on Riley’s tongue as it tangled with Daniel’s, a low moan escaping the younger man’s throat. Hands roamed, greedy and rough, as they stumbled toward the couch, the promise of something filthy and forbidden hanging in the air. Riley’s shirt hit the floor, revealing the hard planes of his chest, and Daniel’s growl of approval was raw. 'Fuck, Riley, you’re gonna be the death of me.'
And as Riley’s fingers worked at Daniel’s belt, the night was only just beginning to burn.
