Chapter 1: The Spark Ignites
The air in the kitchen was thick with tension, a simmering heat that had nothing to do with the pot of stew bubbling on the stove. I leaned against the counter, arms crossed, watching my mother-in-law, Elena, chop vegetables with a precision that could only come from years of wielding a knife. Her dark hair was pulled back in a tight bun, a few strands teasing the nape of her neck, and her curves—God, those curves—were barely contained by the tight black dress she wore. At 45, she was a force of nature, a woman who commanded attention without even trying.
'You’ve been staring at me for ten minutes, Alex,' she said without looking up, her voice a low, smoky purr that sent a jolt straight to my core. 'Either help me with this damn onion or get out of my kitchen.'
I smirked, pushing off the counter and stepping closer, close enough to catch the faint scent of her jasmine perfume. 'Maybe I’m just enjoying the view, Elena. Ever think of that?'
She finally glanced up, her piercing green eyes locking onto mine with an intensity that could melt steel. 'Oh, please. You’re married to my daughter, and you think you can flirt with me like I’m some barmaid? You’ve got balls, I’ll give you that.'
'More than you know,' I shot back, my voice dropping an octave as I leaned in, my breath brushing her ear. 'But let’s be real. You’ve been giving me those looks for weeks. Don’t pretend you haven’t noticed the way I watch you.'
Her lips twitched into a sly smile, but she didn’t pull away. Instead, she turned, her body brushing against mine as she reached for a spice jar on the shelf behind me. Her hip grazed my groin, and I had to bite back a groan. 'Careful, Alex,' she warned, her tone dripping with challenge. 'You’re playing with fire, and I don’t think you can handle the burn.'
'Try me,' I growled, my hands itching to grab her, to pull her against me and show her just how much heat I could take. But I held back, letting the tension build, letting her feel the weight of my gaze as it roamed over her body.
She laughed, a sharp, wicked sound that made my blood race. 'You think you’re the first man to try and charm me? I’ve broken stronger men than you without breaking a sweat.'
'Good thing I’m not trying to charm you,' I said, stepping closer until there was barely an inch between us. 'I’m trying to fuck you. And I think you want it just as bad.'
Her breath hitched, just for a split second, but it was enough. Her eyes darkened, pupils dilating with something raw and hungry. She set the knife down with a deliberate clink, turning to face me fully, her chest rising and falling a little faster. 'You’ve got a filthy mouth, Alex. But words are cheap. You gonna back them up, or are you all talk?'
I didn’t answer with words. Instead, I grabbed her by the waist, pulling her hard against me, my cock already straining against my jeans as I felt the heat of her body. She didn’t push me away. No, Elena gripped my shirt, her nails digging into my chest as she looked up at me with a smirk that said she was still in control. 'That’s it? That’s all you’ve got?' she taunted, her voice a seductive dare.
I grinned, my hands sliding down to grip her ass, firm and perfect under that dress. 'Oh, sweetheart, I’m just getting started.'
Her smirk widened, and then she was kissing me, fierce and unapologetic, her tongue demanding entrance as her body pressed into mine. I could feel her heat, her need, and it drove me wild. My hands roamed, one sliding up to tangle in her hair, the other slipping under her dress to find her already wet, dripping with desire. She moaned into my mouth, a sound that made me harder than I’d ever been, and I knew we were seconds away from tearing each other apart right there on the kitchen counter.
