Forbidden Heat

Forbidden Heat

**Chapter 1: Sparks at the Soirée**

The room pulsed with the kind of energy only a crowded, dimly lit party could muster—half-drunk laughter, clinking glasses, and the low thrum of bass vibrating through the walls. Alex leaned against the bar, a whiskey in hand, scanning the sea of faces with the casual arrogance of someone who knew they could have anyone in the room. Then, their eyes locked on Ullis.

She stood near the center of the chaos, a vision in a crimson dress that hugged every curve like a lover’s desperate grip. Her dark hair cascaded over one shoulder, and her sharp, knowing eyes caught Alex’s gaze with a flicker of challenge. Beside her, a man—her husband, judging by the possessive hand on her lower back—droned on to a group of suits, oblivious to the storm brewing in his wife’s stare.

Alex smirked, pushing off the bar and weaving through the crowd with predatory grace. Ullis didn’t flinch as they approached, her lips curling into a dangerous smile. 'Lost, are we?' she purred, her voice low and smoky, cutting through the noise like a blade.

'Only if you’re not the map I’ve been looking for,' Alex shot back, their tone dripping with intent. They leaned in just enough to catch the faint scent of her perfume—jasmine and sin. 'I’m Alex. And you’re... trouble, I’m guessing.'

Ullis laughed, a sharp, throaty sound that sent a jolt straight through Alex. 'Ullis. And you’ve got no idea. But I’m curious—do you always hit on married women, or am I just lucky tonight?' Her eyes flicked to her husband, still engrossed in his conversation, before returning to Alex with a glint of mischief.

'Only the ones who look like they’re begging for a real conversation,' Alex replied, their voice a low growl. 'Or something... more.' They took a sip of whiskey, letting the silence hang heavy, charged with unspoken promises.

Ullis tilted her head, her gaze unflinching. 'Careful, Alex. I bite back.' But her body language said otherwise—her hip cocked slightly toward them, an invitation wrapped in a warning.

They drifted toward a quieter corner, the crowd thinning as the tension between them thickened. Alex’s hand brushed against Ullis’s arm as they gestured to a nearby doorway, their touch lingering just a second too long. 'How about a breather? Away from the noise... and the baggage.' Their eyes flicked toward her husband, a smirk playing on their lips.

Ullis raised an eyebrow, but her smirk matched theirs. 'You’re bold. I like that. Lead the way.'

They slipped into a small, empty room just off the main hall, the door clicking shut behind them. The air was heavier here, the muffled party sounds a distant hum. Alex stepped closer, their breath warm against Ullis’s ear. 'You’ve got a fire in you, don’t you? I can feel it.' Their hand grazed her thigh, fingers tracing the edge of her dress with deliberate slowness, testing her boundaries.

Ullis didn’t pull away. Instead, she leaned into the touch, her voice a husky whisper. 'And you’ve got a death wish, touching me like that. But I’m not stopping you... yet.' Her chest rose and fell faster as Alex’s hand slid higher, brushing the curve of her breast through the thin fabric. Her skin prickled under their touch, a shiver betraying her cool exterior.

'You’re playing a dangerous game, Ullis,' Alex murmured, their lips hovering near her neck, close enough to feel the heat of her. 'But I’m all in if you are.'

Her eyes darkened, a storm of desire and defiance. 'Then deal the cards, Alex. But don’t think for a second I’m folding.' Her hand gripped their wrist, guiding it briefly before letting go—a silent dare.

The door rattled with a sudden knock, snapping them back to reality. Ullis stepped back, smoothing her dress with a wicked grin. 'Looks like the game’s just getting started. Let’s see how far you’re willing to push.'

Alex’s pulse raced, their body already aching for more as they followed her back into the chaos of the party. The night was young, and the heat between them was only beginning to ignite. Downtown awaited, and with it, the promise of something raw, reckless, and utterly forbidden.
