**Chapter 1: Sparks in the Lecture Hall**
Mia adjusted her glasses, her sharp hazel eyes scanning the sea of half-asleep students in her 8 a.m. literature class. At 34, she was the youngest professor in the department, but her no-nonsense attitude and biting wit had earned her a reputation as untouchable. Her tailored blazer hugged her curves, and her pencil skirt showed just enough leg to remind everyone she wasn’t just a brain in a tweed jacket. She thrived on control, both in her lectures and her life—until Anon walked in late, disrupting everything.
The door creaked open, and there he was: Anon, the university’s star lacrosse player, all 6’2” of rugged confidence. His messy dark hair fell over piercing blue eyes, and his tight athletic shirt clung to a physique carved from endless hours on the field. He flashed a cocky grin as he sauntered to the back row, ignoring the annoyed glares of his peers.
“Nice of you to join us, Mr. Carter,” Mia said, her voice dripping with sarcasm. “Did your alarm clock lose to a hangover, or are we just not worth your time?”
Anon leaned back in his chair, unfazed. “Sorry, Prof. Got held up at practice. But trust me, I wouldn’t miss a chance to hear you tear into Shakespeare. It’s hotter than the locker room after a win.”
The class snickered, but Mia’s lips twitched into a smirk. She wasn’t about to let some jock throw her off her game. “Flattery won’t save your grade, Carter. But since you’re so eager to impress, why don’t you tell us what you think of *Romeo and Juliet*? Or did you just watch the movie with Leonardo DiCaprio?”
He grinned wider, leaning forward now, his voice low and teasing. “Oh, I’ve read it. And I think Romeo was a fool for not taking what he wanted sooner. Passion like that? You don’t wait for permission.”
Mia felt a heat creep up her neck, but she held his gaze, her tone sharp as a blade. “Interesting take. So you’re saying consent is optional? Careful, Carter. That’s a dangerous line to flirt with.”
“Only if the other person isn’t flirting back,” he shot back, his eyes locked on hers, daring her to blink first.
The tension in the room was palpable, a silent battlefield of wits and unspoken desire. Mia turned back to her notes, but her mind was racing. She wasn’t some blushing co-ed; she was a woman who knew what she wanted and how to get it. And damn if Anon’s raw, unfiltered energy didn’t stir something in her she hadn’t felt in years.
After class, as students filed out, Anon lingered, slinging his bag over one shoulder. He approached her desk, his presence overwhelming in the now-empty room. “Got a minute, Prof? I could use some… extra credit advice.”
Mia crossed her arms, her posture commanding even as her pulse quickened. “Extra credit isn’t a euphemism for charm, Carter. What do you really want?”
He stepped closer, his voice a low rumble. “To see if you’re as untouchable as they say. Or if there’s a woman under all that ice who’s just dying to melt.”
Her breath hitched, but she didn’t back down. “You’re playing a risky game, Anon. I don’t melt. I burn. And I don’t play with boys who can’t handle the heat.”
His grin was feral now, and he leaned in, close enough that she could feel the warmth radiating off him. “Good thing I’m not a boy, then. And I’ve got no problem getting burned if it means feeling that fire.”
Mia’s resolve wavered for a split second, her eyes flicking to his lips before she caught herself. She stepped around the desk, putting it between them, but her voice was husky, betraying her. “Office hours are over. But if you’re so desperate to prove yourself, meet me here tonight. 8 p.m. sharp. Don’t be late again.”
As Anon walked out, that cocky smirk still plastered on his face, Mia gripped the edge of her desk, her knuckles white. She was in control—she always was. But the thought of him, hard and hungry, waiting for her in the dim light of the lecture hall, made her body hum with anticipation. Tonight, she’d show him just how dangerous it was to challenge a woman like her. And she had a feeling they’d both be sweating, panting, and dripping with more than just witty comebacks before the night was through.
