Forest of Forbidden Desires

### Chapter One: Knocks in the Wilderness

The forest was a fortress of solitude for Kevin Williams, an 18-year-old beast of a man, his muscular frame etched with scars that told tales of battles with both beast and inner demons. His cabin, a rugged sanctuary of timber and grit, stood defiant among the towering pines, the distant howl of the wind a constant companion to his self-imposed exile. He had fled here, wounded not by blade or claw, but by the sharp sting of rejection. A mortifying confession of love to his adopted mother Sindel and sisters Kitana and Mileena had ended in their laughter—a sound that still echoed in his nightmares. So, he’d run to the wilderness, carving out a life of quiet, brutal survival.

Tonight, though, the forest was anything but quiet. Thunder roared like a war drum through the trees, lightning slashing the sky as rain battered the cabin’s roof. Kevin sat by the fire, a half-carved wooden figurine in his calloused hands, when a sharp knock shattered the storm’s rhythm. His brow furrowed, muscles tensing. No one came out here. No one dared. He set the carving down, grabbed the axe by the door, and approached with the caution of a hunted animal.

“Who’s there?” he growled, voice rough as gravel, hand tightening on the axe handle.

“Open the damn door, Kevin, before we kick it down!” came a voice, commanding and unmistakable. Sindel.

His heart lurched—half dread, half defiance—as he swung the door open. There they stood, a drenched and fierce battalion of women who’d haunted his dreams and torments alike. Sindel, regal even in soaked furs, her silver hair plastered to her face, stood at the forefront. Behind her, Kitana and Mileena, his sisters by bond if not blood, smirked with a mix of amusement and menace. And flanking them, the extended clan: aunties Sonya Blade, Cassie Cage, Li Mei, Jade, Jacqui Briggs, and Tanya, all looking like they’d just clawed their way out of a battlefield. Their eyes burned with purpose, their postures unyielding despite the storm’s assault.

“Well, well,” Kevin drawled, leaning against the doorframe, axe resting on his shoulder. “The whole damn coven shows up on my doorstep. To what do I owe the honor? Come to laugh at me some more?”

Sindel stepped forward, her gaze piercing, lips curling into a dangerous smile. “Stow the self-pity, boy. We’re not here for your wounded ego. We need to lie low. Shao Kahn’s forces are closing in, and this pathetic shack of yours is the perfect hideout to plot our reclamation of the kingdom.”

Kevin’s smirk widened, bitter and bold. “My shack, my rules. You want to stay? Fine. But there’s a price. You’re all my girlfriends now. Every last one of you.” He crossed his arms, daring them to challenge him, the firelight casting shadows over his scarred, chiseled form.

A chorus of sharp laughs and incredulous snorts erupted. Mileena, her feral grin flashing sharp teeth, sauntered closer, rainwater dripping from her dark hair. “Oh, look at this, sisters. The lumberjack’s got delusional fantasies now. Think you can handle us, little brother? You’d break under the weight of one of my kisses.”

“Try me,” Kevin shot back, unflinching, though his pulse quickened. “I’ve been out here wrestling bears. I reckon I can manage a few wildcats.”

Kitana, ever the poised warrior, tilted her head, her blue eyes glinting with mischief. “You’ve got nerve, I’ll give you that. But don’t think for a second we’re here to play house. If we agree to this nonsense, it’s on our terms. You’ll be the one fetching water and groveling for a smile.”

“Groveling?” Kevin chuckled, low and rough. “Sweetheart, I don’t grovel. But I’ll take the deal if it means watching you try to boss me around in my own damn home.”

Sonya Blade, all military grit and no patience, rolled her eyes, brushing wet blonde hair from her face. “Kid, you’re lucky we don’t tie you to a tree and leave you for the wolves. Girlfriends? Hah! You couldn’t handle one of us on our worst day.”

“Speak for yourself, Sonya,” Cassie Cage quipped, her smirk mirroring her mother’s. “I’m curious to see how long he lasts before he’s begging for mercy. I give him a week.”

“Three days,” Jade countered, her green eyes narrowing playfully. “He’ll be on his knees, polishing my boots.”

Li Mei, serene yet deadly, crossed her arms. “Enough banter. We’re staying, Kevin, whether you like our terms or not. But if you think you’re in charge, you’re gravely mistaken. We’ll humor your little fantasy—for now.”

Tanya, ever the schemer, licked her lips, her gaze raking over him like he was prey. “Oh, I’m in. Let’s see how long it takes to break you, woodsman. I’ve got tricks you’ve never even dreamed of.”

Jacqui Briggs laughed, shaking her head. “Man, you’ve got balls, I’ll give you that. But step out of line, and I’ll rearrange that pretty scarred face of yours. Deal?”

Sindel raised a hand, silencing the group, her voice cutting through the storm like a blade. “Enough. We accept your condition, Kevin, if only to shut you up. But make no mistake—I’m the queen here, and you’ll remember your place. Now, get out of the doorway. We’re freezing.”

Kevin stepped aside, gesturing grandly with a mocking bow. “Welcome to my kingdom, ladies. Try not to burn it down.”

They filed in, a whirlwind of dripping cloaks and sharp tongues, filling the small cabin with their commanding presence. The air thickened with unresolved tension, the past humiliation simmering beneath the surface, now layered with this bizarre, heated new dynamic. Kevin dragged a freshly hunted deer from the corner, dropping it on the rough-hewn table with a thud.

“Sonya,” he barked, a glint of challenge in his eye. “Skin this. Dinner ain’t gonna cook itself.”

Sonya turned slowly, her glare withering enough to stop a charging bull. “Listen here, caveman, I’ve skinned worse than you in my sleep. But if you think I’m your little kitchen maid, you’ve got another thing coming. How about you get on your knees and beg for my help? I might consider it.”

The room erupted in laughter, the women exchanging knowing looks as Kevin grinned, unfazed. “Keep talking, soldier. I’ve got all night to wear you down.”

As the fire crackled and the storm raged outside, the cabin became a battleground of wits and unspoken desires, each jab and retort stoking a fire hotter than the one in the hearth. Kevin knew he was playing a dangerous game, but damn if he wasn’t ready to see how far it would go.
