The dense canopy of the forest cast a mosaic of shadows over the path of the Wowhanna warband, their boots crunching softly against the undergrowth. Glo, the daughter of the warband's leader, trudged reluctantly at the rear, her mind heavy with the burden of her impending arranged marriage to a powerful figure. The thought of being bound to someone she didn't love weighed on her like a stone.
As the warband moved forward, Glo lagged further behind, lost in her thoughts. Suddenly, a rustle in the bushes caught her attention. Before she could react, a figure emerged from the undergrowth—a mischievous forest girl with eyes sparkling with playful intent. Her name was Fithktor, and she wore a cheeky grin that promised trouble.
"Well, well, what do we have here? A lost princess?" Fithktor teased, her voice laced with amusement.
Glo, startled, took a step back. "I'm no princess, just a woman trying to escape her fate."
Fithktor's grin widened. "Then you're in luck. I'm an expert at escaping fates." With a swift movement, she grabbed Glo's hand and pulled her deeper into the forest, away from the warband's path.
Glo's heart raced with a mix of fear and excitement. "Where are you taking me?" she asked, her voice tinged with curiosity.
"To adventure, of course!" Fithktor replied, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "But first, a warning. My grandmother might be an old witch."
Glo couldn't help but laugh. "A witch? Should I be scared?"
Fithktor chuckled. "Only if you're afraid of a little old lady."
Their banter was interrupted by the sudden appearance of a young man. He was Soolun, a mage with a serious demeanor, claiming to be a hunter of other mages. His eyes lingered on Glo with a hint of desire.
"The forest is dangerous," Soolun warned, his voice stern. "You should not be wandering alone."
Glo, sensing an opportunity to escape her fate, stepped forward boldly. "If you promise not to harm anyone during our journey, I'll marry you."
Soolun's eyes widened in surprise, his cheeks flushing with a mix of embarrassment and excitement. "You... you would marry me?"
"Yes," Glo replied, her voice firm. "But only if you agree to my terms."
Soolun nodded, still taken aback by her directness. "I agree."
Fithktor, amused by the turn of events, couldn't resist a jab. "Easily swayed by a pretty face and a bold proposal, eh, Soolun?"
Soolun's blush deepened, but he said nothing, his eyes still fixed on Glo.
As they continued their journey, Glo and Fithktor exchanged playful insults, their bond growing stronger with each witty remark. "So, Glo, ready to face the witch?" Fithktor teased.
"Only if you promise to protect me from her spells," Glo shot back, a smile playing on her lips.
Soolun, feeling out of his depth among the two strong-willed women, attempted to assert his authority. "As a mage, I should lead the way."
Fithktor rolled her eyes, and Glo laughed. "Lead the way, then, oh mighty mage," Fithktor mocked, her tone dripping with sarcasm.
Finally, they reached the grandmother's house, a quaint cottage nestled deep in the forest. Its windows glowed with a warm, inviting light, casting a soft glow on the surrounding trees. As they approached the door, Glo took a deep breath, steeling herself for the encounter with her grandmother, unsure of what awaited them inside.
"Ready?" Fithktor asked, her voice softening.
"As ready as I'll ever be," Glo replied, her hand reaching for the door. With a final glance at her new companions, she pushed it open, stepping into the unknown with a heart full of hope and a mind ready for whatever adventure lay ahead.
