Glynda Goodwitch was grading papers when she heard the door to her office creak open. She looked up to see Cardin Enter, a smug smirk plastered on his face.
“What can I do for you, Cardin?” Glynda asked, her voice dripping with sarcasm.
Cardin pulled out a photo from his back pocket and held it up for Glynda to see. It was a picture of Glynda in her underwear, taken from a distance.
Glynda’s eyes narrowed as she took in the photo. “Where did you get that?” she demanded.
Cardin chuckled. “Let’s just say I have my ways.”
Glynda’s eyes flashed with anger. “You had no right to invade my privacy like that. Give me that photo.”
Cardin pulled the photo closer to his chest. “Not so fast. I have plans for this little souvenir.”
Glynda raised an eyebrow. “Oh really? And what might those plans be?”
Cardin’s smirk grew wider. “I’m thinking of spreading it around the academy. I’m sure everyone would get a good laugh out of it.”
Glynda’s confidence didn’t waver. “Go ahead and try, see if I don’t turn you into a frog.”
Cardin laughed, but there was a hint of unease in his voice. “You wouldn’t dare.”
Glynda leaned back in her chair. “Try me.”
Cardin’s laughter died down as he took in Glynda’s unwavering gaze. He had expected her to cower in fear, but instead, she was challenging him. It made him uneasy.
Glynda took the photo from Cardin and examined it. “How did you get this?” she asked.
Cardin shrugged. “I sneaked into your office while you were changing.”
Glynda rolled her eyes. “You’re about as subtle as a sledgehammer, aren’t you?”
Cardin grinned. “I like to think of myself as resourceful.”
Glynda handed the photo back to Cardin. “I want you to give me the negatives and any other copies you have.”
Cardin shook his head. “Not a chance. I’ll only give them up if you agree to give me passing grades no matter how poorly I do on my exams.”
Glynda considered his offer. “I’ll think about it.”
Cardin’s eyes widened in surprise. “You’ll think about it?”
Glynda nodded. “Yes. Come back tomorrow, and I’ll give you my answer.”
Cardin was taken aback by her calm response. He had expected her to be angry, but instead, she was taking his blackmail attempt in stride.
Glynda leaned forward, her eyes fixed on Cardin. “Let me ask you something, Cardin. Do you really think blackmailing me is a good idea?”
Cardin shrugged. “I’m not afraid of you.”
Glynda smiled. “You should be.”
Cardin gulped. He had underestimated Glynda, and now he was starting to feel the weight of his mistake.
Glynda stood up from her chair. “I’ll see you tomorrow, Cardin.”
Cardin nodded and quickly left the office, the photo still clutched in his hand.
Glynda watched him go, a satisfied smile on her face. She had handled the situation better than she had expected, and now she had the upper hand.
She leaned back in her chair and let out a deep breath. She had a feeling this was just the beginning of a very interesting game.
