The Grand Hall of Olympus buzzed with excitement, the gods and goddesses gathered together, whispering and giggling amongst themselves. The air was thick with anticipation, and I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease settle in my stomach. I made my way through the crowd, my light brown hair shining and my green eyes sparkling with intelligence. I was Cady, the goddess of inventions, technology, and a minor goddess of wisdom.
As I approached the center of the hall, I felt a hand on my arm. I turned to see Aphrodite, the goddess of love, sashaying up to me with a smug smile on her face. “Darling, I heard the most delicious rumor about you,” she said, her voice dripping with saccharine sweetness.
I raised an eyebrow, my expression unreadable. “Oh? And what might that be?” I asked, already knowing that I wouldn’t like the answer.
Aphrodite laughed, a tinkling sound that grated on my nerves. “That you’re with child! Isn’t that just the most hilarious thing? Poor Hephaestus, unable to father a child, and you...well, you’re quite the surprise, aren’t you?”
I felt my anger rising, but I kept my voice steady. “Aphrodite, I suggest you watch your tongue. You have no idea what you’re talking about.”
Aphrodite merely laughed again, her voice echoing in the hall. “Oh, but I do, darling. I do.”
I turned on my heel and walked away, my back straight and my head held high. I could feel the eyes of the other gods and goddesses on me, and I knew what they were thinking. They were thinking that I was a fraud, that I was somehow able to conceive a child with Hephaestus, the god of fire and metalworking, when everyone knew that he was unable to father children.
I made my way through the crowd, my heart pounding in my chest. I could feel the weight of the secret that I was carrying, and I knew that I couldn’t keep it hidden for much longer. I finally reached Hephaestus, who was sitting alone, his face twisted in a scowl.
I sat down next to him, my expression gentle. “Hello, my love,” I said, taking his hand in mine.
Hephaestus looked at me, his expression softening. “Hello, Cady,” he said, his voice low.
I took a deep breath. “I have something to tell you,” I said, my voice steady.
Hephaestus tensed, his eyes narrowing. “What is it?”
I smiled, a small, private smile. “I’m pregnant,” I said, my voice soft.
Hephaestus’s eyes widened, and then he started to laugh. It was a deep, genuine laugh, and it filled the room. “You’re pregnant?” he said, wiping tears from his eyes. “With my child?”
I nodded, my smile growing. “Yes, with your child.”
Hephaestus stood up, pulling me with him. “Then let’s tell the world,” he said, his voice full of joy.
And with that, the two of us walked back into the Grand Hall, hand in hand, ready to face the whispers and the giggles. Because we knew something that the other gods and goddesses didn’t. We knew that love conquers all, even the cruelest of jokes.
As we approached the center of the hall, the whispers grew louder. “Is it true?” “She’s pregnant?” “With Hephaestus’s child?”
I stood tall, my head held high. “Yes, it’s true,” I said, my voice loud and clear. “I am pregnant with Hephaestus’s child. And we couldn’t be happier.”
The room fell silent, and then Hephaestus spoke up. “And we will raise this child together, with love and care. And we will show the world that even the most unlikely of pairs can create something beautiful.”
With that, the room erupted in applause. And I knew that no matter what the future held, I had Hephaestus by my side, and that was all that mattered.
As the night went on, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of pride and joy. I was going to be a mother, and I was going to do it with the man I loved by my side. And that was all that mattered.
The night wore on, and as the gods and goddesses began to leave, Hephaestus and I stood in the center of the hall, hand in hand. “I love you,” he said, his voice low and sincere.
I looked up at him, my heart swelling with love. “I love you too,” I said, my voice filled with emotion.
And with that, we walked out of the Grand Hall, ready to start our new journey as parents. Together.
