**Chapter 1: Descent of the Divine**
The ocean roared like a beast unchained as Sofia clung to the splintered remains of her yacht, her brown hair plastered to her face by the salty spray. Her jacket, once pristine, was torn at the sleeve, and her turtleneck bodysuit clung to her curves like a second skin, soaked through. She was a scientist, not a sailor, but she’d be damned if she let the sea claim her. With a final, desperate heave, she dragged herself onto the jagged shore of an uncharted island, her trousers shredded at the knees, her breath ragged.
The jungle loomed before her, dense and dripping with mystery. Sofia stood, brushing sand from her thighs, her sharp mind already calculating her next move. That’s when they emerged—tall, bronzed figures with eyes wide as moons, their bodies adorned with tribal ink and little else. Savages, she thought, but their gazes held no threat, only awe. They dropped to their knees, murmuring in a tongue she couldn’t grasp, their hands outstretched as if she were a deity descended from the heavens.
“Well, I’ll be damned,” Sofia muttered, her voice dripping with dry amusement. “I crash-land on an island, and suddenly I’m a goddess. Should I start demanding sacrifices or just ask for a coconut?”
One of them, a broad-shouldered man with a chiseled jaw and piercing eyes, stepped forward. His name, she later learned, was Kael. He spoke in broken, halting English, his voice a low rumble. “You… sky woman. Fire hair. God come to us. We serve.”
Sofia arched a brow, her lips curling into a smirk. “Sky woman, huh? I like the sound of that. But let’s get one thing straight, big guy—I don’t need serving. I need a plan. And maybe a bath. You got one of those around here?”
Kael’s eyes flickered with something primal, a spark of fascination. He gestured toward the jungle, his muscular arm glistening with sweat under the tropical sun. “Come. We show. Water. Clean. For god.”
She followed, her boots crunching on the undergrowth, acutely aware of the eyes on her—dozens of them, drinking in every move she made. They led her to a hidden lagoon, the water crystalline and inviting, surrounded by smooth stones and lush ferns. The air was thick with humidity, and Sofia felt a bead of sweat trickle down her neck, pooling at the base of her throat.
“Alright, boys,” she said, turning to face Kael and the others, her tone commanding. “You’ve got your goddess. Now give her some privacy. I’m not here for a peep show.”
Kael hesitated, his gaze lingering on the way her bodysuit hugged her form, but he nodded, barking an order to the others. They retreated, though not far, their murmurs of reverence echoing through the trees. Sofia stripped off her jacket, tossing it aside, and stepped toward the water, her body aching for relief. The bodysuit was next, peeling away to reveal toned, glistening skin, her confidence unshaken even in this wild, untamed place.
As she sank into the cool embrace of the lagoon, a rustle caught her ear. Kael hadn’t left. He stood at the edge of the clearing, his chest heaving, his eyes locked on her with an intensity that sent a jolt through her core. She didn’t flinch, didn’t cover herself. Instead, she met his stare head-on, her voice cutting through the humid air like a blade.
“Thought I told you to scram, Kael. Or do gods not get personal space on this island?”
He stepped closer, his bare feet silent on the moss, his body radiating heat. “I guard. Protect. Sky woman… beautiful. Strong. I not touch. Only watch. If you say.”
Sofia’s laugh was sharp, a challenge. “Oh, I say plenty, big guy. But let’s get this straight—I’m no damsel, and I’m definitely not shy. You want to watch? Fine. But don’t think for a second I’m not in control here.”
She rose from the water, droplets cascading down her skin, her gaze never wavering. Kael’s breath hitched, his hands clenching at his sides as if fighting an urge to reach for her. The tension between them crackled, electric and raw, her body humming with a sudden, unexpected heat. She stepped closer, the space between them shrinking, her voice dropping to a husky whisper.
“Keep your hands to yourself, Kael. But if you’re good… maybe I’ll let you see just how divine I can be.”
His eyes darkened, a low growl escaping his throat, and Sofia felt her pulse quicken, her skin flushing with something dangerously close to desire. The jungle seemed to close in around them, the air thick with unspoken promises, as she stood there, dripping wet, daring him to cross a line she hadn’t yet drawn.
