Cady's eyes fluttered open, the early morning sunlight streaming in through the windows of her and Hephaestus' high-tech bedroom. She stretched, feeling a strange mix of excitement and anxiety bubbling in her stomach. Ignoring it for the moment, she slipped out of bed and padded towards the bathroom.
As she reached for her toothbrush, the feeling of nausea returned. Cady paused, frowning. She hadn't been feeling well for the past few days, but she had chalked it up to stress and lack of sleep. But now, she couldn't ignore the possibility.
Without thinking twice, Cady reached for a pregnancy test, holding it in her hand with a half-joking, half-serious expression. "Might as well rule this out," she muttered to herself.
As she waited for the results, Cady's mind raced. She had always been so focused on her inventions and technology, and never really thought about having children. But now, the possibility was staring her in the face.
The test came back positive. Cady's heart skipped a beat. She took a deep breath, her mind racing as she tried to process the news.
She made her way back to the bedroom, where Hephaestus was still asleep. She watched him for a moment, admiring his strong tan skin and dark brown hair. He was the love of her life, and now, they were going to be parents.
Cady gently shook Hephaestus awake, holding the pregnancy test in her hand. "Looks like you're going to be a father, big guy," she said, trying to hide her nervousness behind a playful tone.
Hephaestus' eyes snapped open, and he sat up, rubbing his eyes. "What? Are you serious?" He looked at her with a mixture of shock and excitement.
Cady nodded, feeling a wave of relief wash over her as she saw the smile spread across Hephaestus' face. "I'm serious. I just took the test."
Hephaestus pulled Cady in for a tight hug, his excitement palpable. "That's amazing! I can't believe it."
Cady laughed, feeling her nerves dissipate. "I know. I still can't believe it either."
Hephaestus looked at her with a serious expression. "Cady, I know this wasn't planned, but I want you to know that I'm here for you, no matter what. We're in this together."
Cady felt a warm feeling spread through her chest. She knew she could always count on Hephaestus. "I know. And I'm here for you too."
They spent the rest of the morning in bed, talking about their future as parents. Cady couldn't help but feel a little overwhelmed, but Hephaestus' calm and steady presence helped her relax.
A week later, Cady went for an ultrasound. She was excited but also a little nervous. What if something was wrong?
The ultrasound technician smiled as she showed Cady the image on the screen. "Congratulations, you're having twins!"
Cady's jaw dropped. Twins? She looked at Hephaestus, who was standing next to her, with a stunned expression.
"Twins?" he repeated, still in shock. "Wow, that's... that's incredible."
Cady nodded, still trying to process the news. Twins. She was going to be a mother of twins. She couldn't wait to tell Hephaestus' family.
